Hi all,
thanks to the extensive information from Troll and many other people on this board, I've now ordered a 15" TiBook (867) w/ 768 MB of RAM. This is for audio programs such as Logic Audio, Ableton LIve and NI Reaktor, all of which run on (or have been announced for) OSX and the AU format. My question: Will I be fine for running softsynths & the Kontakt sampler with that amount of memory? I had initially planned on 1GB but this special offer comes with just 768.
As far as I can tell (I'm currently a PC user), I should be alright even when using ReWire, no?
I also ordered the MOtu 828 Firewire audio interface and a 120 GB FW HD (with Oxford chipset for audio optimised throughput).
Does anyone know if there is a laptop bag that is big enough for 19" equipment such as the Motu?
Anything I should absolutely observe when I get the machine before switching it on?
Thanks all for your info...

beeing an audio professional here are some thoughts from my side :
Get as much ram as you can get !
If you want to use Kontakt for example with a large sample bank, or an instruments like "the grand" you get a better performance if you can load all samples to the ram.
If you are doing "normal" dj type music without extensive sample banks, 768 is ok though.
The Motu rocks, but is not really portable...
If you want something really portable,I would suggest the m-box by digidesign.
Though it only has 2 ins / 2outs you can use Protools 6 LE with it !
Enjoy

Thanks iLashes,
will this still be true with the new version of Kontakt, which supports direct-from-disk streaming? I suspect it won't if it really does what the term implies.

of course the steaming from disk feature is nice if you have limited ram, to be able to load a song al least.
But performancewise its way better if you play the samples from out of the ram then from the hd.
Hey I mean RAM is pretty cheap currently.
Seeing what equipment and software you plan to use, money does not seem to be an issue
Max it out mate !

I knew the Tibooks ran hot -- but I didn't realize they actually had a "steaming from disk feature".

Haha - but it will be as soon as I have received & paid for the Ti, the Motu, the HD & misc other stuff
Well, I reckon I'll get more RAM maybe later....

Steaming from Harddisk is Apples new secret wireless Audio Data Transsfer Protocol !
This is the true reason why the TiBooks are so hot !
