These PowerMacs are great and all, but if Apple wants to instantly get THOUSANDS of my hard earned duckets, they will release that 15.4" Al Powerbook very very soon. I have a video project coming up and it looks like I am going to have to edit it on a PC (oh the horror!). I got lotsa money for you Stevo, just release that sweet machine!

yeah i agree.
While the new Powerbooks are great,
the 15" is what I want.

After checking out the 12" today, next to the 15" Ti, I have to agree....the 17" would be excellent, and the 12" has the BEST DAMN KEYBOARD ever, but the 15" Al. would be PERFECT, especially since it will probably have DVI video out. I hope it is released by April before I go to Japan...

It's pretty easy to get new Macs over here, you know... You can even order one from Apple BTO with a US keyboard if you want.

much cheaper too - at least compared to the UK where I bought my current iBook.

Now Im looking to buy a powerbook and with the 15" models (I too am waiting for the new 15" though...) the difference between Japan and the UK is about 300 GBP - quite a significant gap.

Yes. The 15" Aluminum PowerBook is the missing gap in the PowerBook line. A blend between the sizes of the 17" and 12" with 17" features of course.

Grrrrr.....cannot.....wait.......

Anyone want to speculate when these will be out? I've heard it might be released in anywhere from 1 to 3 months.

At least this gives me time to save up some $$$.

Im currently saving now and will definitely have enough by the next paycheck.

I just hope they are bloody out by that time, otherwise my impulse will get the better of me from having all that money finally, and I will just go out and purchase the current TiBook...

God help me to resist...

Get a bluetooth adapter and attach an external antenna to your Airport Base Station.

The obsession with "all things new" never ceases to amaze me....

I would look at that as an option, but I would rather buy it outright instead of putting it on a credit card at all. And all my files I need to transfer to it would be here in America...so I really need to purchase one at least one day before I leave.

Agreed. But I won't buy one until it gets more horsepower underneath. Let's see:
1] FASTER PROCESSOR
2] MORE RAM
3] GOOD GRAPHICS CARD & VIDEO MEMORY
4] NO FAN NOISE/VERY LITTLE FAN NOISE
5] NO HEAT ISSUE

So, YES, 15" size with 17" features (illuminated keyboard, etc.) WooHoo. Now that's near perfection.

April would be good for me too - I'm off to Hong Kong where prices are still cheaper than UK prices less VAT.

The original plan was to get a 12" there, and with the exchange rate at 12.8, I can sel my Ti400, add the proceeds of my Pismo sale and I can get a maxed out 12", AE, and a digital camera (Canon Powershot G3 - cheaper again in HK).

BUT...

If the 15" is out by April, all bets are off - I'll have to see them side-by-side before I decide. Either way, I can't really lose. Both are great machines, and the best thing is - this will be my first BRAND NEW Apple product, all my precious Macs have been previously loved. Roll on April !

What we =really really really= need, is someone in HK buying Apple's with US/UK keyboards as required, and shipping them across to us here, keeping a little profit for themselves.

Everyone Wins!!!

Applestore HK Prices: -

12" SD - HK$ 16,100 (1,257)
15" 867MHz Combo - HK$ 18,500 (1,445)
15" 1GHz SD - HK$ 22,500 (1,775)
17" 1GHz SD - HK$ 26,500 (2,070)

Applestore UK Prices (incl. VAT): -

12" Combo - 1,399.00

TomHMeredith - your scheme would work for the first few times but I'm sure HM Customs & Excise would have a thing or two to say about it soon enough

I'm saving up too! I want to buy the best configuration out there. Hey, If I am goingto spend a couple of thousand bucks, I might as well go all the way.
Plus my G4 400 mhz is starting to show it's age. So when are they coming out?
