The little point upgrades are hardly worth getting excited over any more. Wake me when we get some solid scoop on Panther.

Yeah right. I've heard that this version is supposed to fix the problems in hdid so that it can remotely mount disk images on virtual hosting sites. That is awesome if true.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I don't think it will have anything even slightly exciting.

10.2.3 already has Extigy drivers.

10.2.4 is supposed to have built in AUDIGY (and rudimentary AUDIGY 2) drivers

Yeah, like when FTP in the Finder works.

It does work. In fact, if you click an FTP link in Safari, it automatically mounts the site on the desktop. I did this several times last night with no problem. What is it that's not working for you?

I think he was talking about mounting your own FTP disk and being able to write to it.

FTP write support is difficult because you can't do partial writes or anything - you have to "upload" whole file. The only thing you can do is append data to the end of a file, you can't, say, change bytes in the middle, or anything like that. I think that's basically the reason that it's "read-only" - it doesn't behave like a filesystem enough when it comes to write.

Yeah, I think you're right. But still, there are workarounds for this, and Apple can do it. It's just a matter of developer resources you'd want to commit for such a feature.

Anyway, it would be awesome to have!

Do you think that was one of the reasons why iLife was delayed a week? Maybe they both will come out the same day?

No, these aren't related like that; the version of X on the 17" PowerBook and the new Power Macs are in a different development branch than the conventional 10.2.4 update.

Yes, 10.2.4 for all hardrware is coming soon; no, it's not coming soon *because of* the new hardware.

I hope 10.2.4 fixes the display-waking-from-sleep problems I'm having with my Tibook. No one has responded to my pleas about this issue so I thought I'd drop the hint in a thread people are actually paying attention to..

Is the news about the Audigy drivers in the developer notes or did you read this online somewhere? I know about the Extigy but I also read that when you try to use it it will kernel panic.

I actually read it on here, and there was a link to the article. It was a German site IIRC.

When the leaked iMovie 3 launches it says something about "Incorrect Localized.rsrc" or some nonsense like that but other than that I think it runs fine in 10.2.3. AFAIK iPhoto 2 runs fine in 10.2.3

Found it. It was ThinkSecret (http://www.thinksecret.com/news/macosx1024.html). Pretty reputable source. I'm pretty tempted to install the leaked build and try my roommates Audigy. Hopefully Apple will release a DVD player that can support 5.1 sound and Dolby decoding and whatnot.

Same here. I don't know why all the complaints, I mount ftp servers all the time. Works great. VERY nice feature.

Tried copying directly to a mounted SMB server, worked great also, that was surprising, OS 9 would usualy take a **** when copying from mounted drive to mounted drive...

Back when this thread was started, folks were saying that build 6I20 was looking good as a release candidate for OS X 10.2.4. Last I heard, they were up to build 6I25, which still has some major bugs (like no sound).

For once, I don't mind waiting for the update, because I am currently setting a new personal uptime record, and I don't want to restart.
