DON'T look at the hardware specs. Look at what games you like and deside on that.

Places to look www.ign.com and www.gamespot.com

Ya but I don't really see what that has to do with Game Consoles.

PS2: The choice of Gay Canadians.

I'd take a GameCube, but they's my personal preference.

I'd like to have a GameCube *and* a PS2, but the PS2 would only be for Gran Turismo and Vice City...

I PC is the best choice for FPS games, without a doubt.

Whoa, GameCube has the least RPGs and least planned RPGs. PS2 is the RPG king.

Oh, look, I stumbled into another one of these threads.

Just look at what games you want to play on all of the systems, do some research ... and then get a GameCube.

I have both. I WAS a Nintendo fanboy until I got my PS2. Now I am a PS2 lover but I WANT to love my GC but not enough games for it just like N64's problem.

Yes the GC is worth getting for Metriod and Zelda alone but they don't last forever, metroid is over with after 20 hours. I have to see about Zelda.

XBox. Halo, 8 hours and your done with the system. oooh, but it has 5.1 sound and a harddrive

Don't forget HDTV and an online network where you know your friends are going to be.

I find it funny that you say "don't look at the hardware specs". Why not? If you have an HDTV and the choice between the same games on all three platforms, wouldn't you get the XBox?

Then again, you can't even properly frame a movie on your expensive TV so I wouldn't get any kind of serious debate out of you anyway.

EDIT: And yes, I'm pro-XBox. That doesn't mean I'm anti-everythingelse. Currently enjoying Zelda on my GAMECUBE in PROGRESSIVE SCAN. SUH-WEET!

If you like nifty graphics, get a Game Cube. Has fun games too and is peachy keen with a GameBoy.

If you like LOTS of games to choose from, get a Play Station.

If you like to have a company dictate what you can and can't do with your gaming console, get an xBox.

There's Halo for the xBox but I don't see how it was suppose to revolutionize the gaming industry. When you're in PvP, it's just like every other first person shooter.

Halo is coming out for Mac and PC so it is not worth getting an XBOX just for that.

Also, rumor has it MS is coming out with a smaller less clunky XBOX soon.

I recently baught a Nintendo GameCube. i had no loyalty to either company befor ei purchased it. My roommate had an XBox and a PS2, i enjoyed playing Project Gotham racing on the 'box' and well thats about it. the PS2 was well and good too.
But i chose the cube because....
-Price (they are now giving a game away for free, and these are good games. i baught it before the offer)
-Size (might not matter to most, but i like efficient designs)
-Controller ...just 'felt' better.
-Games. (i had not ben into console gaming since the Sega Genesis), but when i got a look at Metroid Prime(i had never played a metroid game ever), Legend of Zelda(still havent played any Zelda game ...yet), Rogue Leader(the first console game that truely impressed me, which got me bent on the cube)
-Specs.....well Ill be honest, i did a lot of reading into the specs of all 3 systems, and they are ALL about the same performance in the end, as far as pushing polygons onto the screen. The distinguishing factor between the 3 arethe 'graphic features' they offer. i liked the 8 textures per surface of the cube cause i think that will lead to some really amazing effects this year.

So far i own Eternal Darkness:SR, Metroid prime and Rogue Leader. Love em all, but i dont spend my time in front of the tv all day, just maybe an hour or two at most. my only quibble with the cube is the lack of a good racing game.

Cheers.

so that means there are like 8 xBox owners in HK now ?

That game like the other women's beach-ball games sell because of one thing, and i think it's only a matter of time before we get porn for the consoles.I think the quality of these games are quite predictable.

perfect analogy....production value of a softcore porno to an independant film.

Man, I can see the future now.... Nintendo will start first, trying to get more of an adult audience and change its perceived image.

The Loins of Zelda: A Link In Her Ass

Link walks in, all dressed up as a Hylian firefighter. Zelda's all kinkified in some skimpy leather getup. "I heard there's a blaze in here I need to put out," Link'll say.

You know the blaze is in her pants, baby....

PS2, although the least specced, it has the best games. Xbox has a lousy controller and a whole, two decent games - Halo & no doubt someother one. Nintendo Gamecube is for people who look cartoony games, Mario, Luigi and so on.
Remember that Halo is coming out on PS2, Mac and PC soon, PS2 next month, PC 3 months and Mac is unknown. PS2 is a much nicer looking console and the hardest to take the piss out of, think about it -
Nintendo Gay Cube

Now make one up for the PS2...

Did I mention Nintendo is poor and apparently they'll never make another home console again, even though they say this everytime. Oh well.

Is that you, Cash? You sound like him -- terribly uninformed, apparently doesn't keep up with the gaming or tech news around him.

Anyway, Nintendo actually has plans for their GameCube successor. They plan on releasing it alongside or close to the PS3 launch, so competition will be a little tighter, I suppose, and so Sony won't have a year and a half head start. Nintendo even said when they stop making consoles, that will be the day they leave the video game market. Like that will happen. They've got plenty of money to put behind their machines, which I'm glad for -- so us "kids" can keep playing their great games.

And can't wait for Halo on the Mac. That should be cool.

And isn't Nintendo worth somewhere around 24 billion dollars? Not yen. They've got plenty of money.

Next generation of gaming's going to be great.

And how coulde you totally miss the Link pr0n joke? That was gold, man, gold.

And how many fuggen times am I going to use "and"?

Wow. Fanboys don't get more unabashed and shallow than this, do they? Take notes, kids: if you ever want the ladies to leave you alone, act like this.

Let's see... I don't have any direct experience with the XBox, so I won't make a serious effort to defend it. Project Ego comes to mind, and some people like DOA3. For the GameCube, though, it's getting plenty of non-cartoony titles: Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Rogue Squadron, Resident Evil franchise, Killer7, F-Zero (being made by Sega), Too Human (more news please, Silicon Knights), etc.

Halo is theoretically coming to PC/Mac (M$ outsourced the ports to third parties), but I'm fairly certain it won't be on PS2. There's this little hitch called "Microsoft owns Bungie now," and I don't see them permitting Halo to come out on PS2, even after XBox has Halo 2. I've heard good things about Timesplitters 2 (all three consoles), though.

As for childish names, you're pretty stupid if you can't see anything you could do with Playstation 2. Even PS2 could be called the PoS2.

The funny thing is a certain someone here keeps quoting sales numbers saying that Xbox and GC are close.

The important thing to remember is Microsoft actually loses a ton of money every time they sell and Xbox and is losing money overall.

Nintendo is MAKING money.

hehehe... i love fanboys....theyre really great for a good laugh. ...the geekiest of the geeks..

Halo should come out for the PS2, with the number of PS2s on the market today, i doubt if MS would pass up the opportunity to sell like a billion(exgageration) copies of the game to PS2 owners(might even get a few converts, much like the iPod did). After all for every box they sell, they make a loss, so why not take the opportunity to sell 'first generation' xBox exclusives to PS2 (and maybe even GC) owners. I think they will release Halo2 for xBox, and maybe Halo 1 for the PS2.

That being said...i played Halo all the way through, and i thought it preety much sucked azz...gameplay was mediocre, story was too generic, and the ending sequence pissed me off the most...i mean....they should have just flashed 'Halo2 coming soon to XBox' on the screen in bright fluorecent green. the xBox does have some good games, thats for sure, i personally enjoyed playing Project Gotham Racing a lot (especially in 2 player games).

For a first console, MS did a relitavely good job imo.

PS2 was ground breaking when it came out....and then aged quite rapidly. Also, this is SONY's second console. I personally liked the PS1 design more than the PS2....it looked too much 'darth vader' for me.

Cheers.

No way, Halo is the only thing selling Xbox right now. If MS ported it to PS2 Xbox would fall off the face of the earth.

I have all three.

I put my PS2 in the closet after being disappointed by Vice City.

I play my Xbox the most. Xbox Live is awesome. I play NFL 2K3 against a couple of friends of mine. Being able to talk trash to them is so cool!

In the middle is my GameCube. I've played this a ton also. I've spent countless hours on Animal Crossing, Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime.

If I had to choose just one, I'd pick the Xbox because of Live.

That's why companies have exclusive titles. Do you think the PS2 would be doing as well if GTA was available on all systems?? GTA3 was the only reason I bought my PS2.

Here is a page I made about gamecube.

One of the things that has been standing out to me lately is the elegance with which the Cube deals with load times. XBox and PS2 seem to have accepted it as just something that has to be done, but Nintendo has figured out some very clever ways around it. Most of the games (bar non-exclusive games developed for the other platforms as well) feel almost entirely free of load times because the system dynamically loads things in anticipation of what you're going to do next (an excellent example of this is Met. Prime) At the same time you can waid a minute or two to get started playing GTA: Vice City. I am also very pleased with the system's portability. I just traveled across the country with my cube and 12 games in my carry-on bag and I stil had room left for 4 books a couple magazines, my CD player, a bunch of CDs, my GBA, a water bottle, gloves and an electric shaver! It occurs to me that if you want to play games with your friends as one of the principal uses for the system, GameCube is the best choice. Its so small and portable that you can take it almost anywhere, the controllers are very intuitive so people can learn to play games very quickly, and it is very durable (PS2 and XBox seem to be physically less robust).

In any case you should chose the system you want based on the games you want to play. PS2 seems to have a few nice titles coming out. XBox has Halo and the bouncy beach girls game. GCN has a very exciting year ahead with Legend of Zelda coming out along with a slew of other very exciting offerings. IGN has a nice preview of the new games planned for this year (that we know about) here (you need to be an IGN insider to view this...sorry )

Actually, if you had paid attention to the gaming press, SC was multi-platform all along. M$ just gave UbiSoft a money hat for about 6 months exculisivity and a media blackout about it. M$ even admitted as much during the blackout.

No, Halo will not come to PS2 because Microsoft, maker of the XBox, also owns Halo.

Yeah, Halo would look great without all of the bumpmapping effects on the PS2 and crappier textures.

Ax and BG pretty much clear up everything I was going to say. They always do. GC does have faster load times. It also has the fastest RAM on the planet, which is part of the reason. The 'Cube is an awesome machine. I personally can't wait to break into game development with someone big (my wishes, instead of working with small unknown companies with projects that aren't going anywhere) and work with the machine. Developers are missing out, I think. Though I understand the "image" of Nintendo can be a problem, and even the GC's media.

Anyway, yeah, BG and Ax are usually the voices of reason when it comes to gaming on the boards. Of course, I come in with the specs and look like a Nintendo fanboy.

And Star Wars dude is right about MS losing money on the Xbox -- I remembering that this was their plan: get an installed base with the Xbox and prepare for the next generation, while losing half a billion in the process, say. No biggy for MS.

All right, that's it. I still say the Zelda pr0n joke was gold. And ink had a wonderful addition to it.

Wouldn't load times depend almost entirely on the disc drive, not the RAM?

The disks are smaller so it doesn't have to move the reader head as much to find the next info, also any system can dynamically load games, many don't bother though.

What he said. The RAM also plays a role in load times. 1-T SRAM is teh rox0rz. Whatever the means.

I also played Zelda WW again in the store today. Tried the stealth level. Very cool.

It was less than three minutes of play. I was on my way out. I skipped over the text in the beginning (to spare myself the spoilers). It was a castle looking place, and there were huge spotlights scanning the courtayrd area. I found a barrel at the bottom of set of steps and picked it up. Link then dumped it on his own head, and I was able to walk around with it on me. You've probably seen screens of that, but it was really cool to actually play it. I then got caught and some bad dudes threw me into a cell. Picked up some pots and found a secret passageway to get out of the cell. That's about it. Next time I go, I'll do the boss level.
