I use Macs at home, except for a PC laptop which I use to access my company's network. My provider is Charter cable. It uses DHCP and automatically assigns IP addresses. I want to use an Airport Extreme base station to share internet access with the Macs wirelessly and pc laptop wired through the LAN port.
Basic setup of Airport allows all to function well EXCEPT one particular (and critical) piece of software on the company network. It is a VPN application.
What is frustrating is that when I use a Linksys router (instead of the Airport Extreme) to share internet access, again everything works and the critical software is fine. Am using the basic setup for the Linksys as well.
Again, basic setups for either device. No port mapping, etc. Have tried various suggestions for port mapping of the Airport (esp port 500) but to no avail.
So... what is the Linksys router doing that the Airport is not?
My solution so far is to wire both the Airport and the pc laptop to the router, with the Airport in bridge mode, but that screws up AOL connection for my wife and son, and I haven't found any workaround for that yet.
