There is an Autodesk survey going around for AutoCAD users who may be interested is AutoCAD for OS X. In order to get this survey, you need to e-mail Eric Stover, the AutoCAD Product Manager at [email protected] with the subject "AutoCAD on OS X"

I know there are a lot of people with malice towards AutoCAD, but there are some that wouldn't mind having an OS X version of AutoCAD that could seemlessly read DWGs.

Enjoy...

just for kicks, I've added a poll for our amusement

Hmmm, interesting....

Would AutoDesk make a liar out of me and actually consider uporting the app to OS X?! Well, I would still have reservations. Thanks a bunch for the link! I'm definitely going to submit it with as many of my opinions as I can squeeze in.

When you receive your survey, it has a unique Authentication code at the top of the e-mail. So once you submit the survey with that code, it's counted just that once. Just inform any Pro-Mac and Pro-AutoCAD people about it, and maybe we'll have enough impact on Autodesk to develop AutoCAD for Mac OS X.

For anti-AutoCAD people.. the development of AutoCAD for Mac OS X could drive the prices of Mac CAD software down... So don't be too cynical about the possibility.

Ha! I wasn't even thinking of "vote early, vote often" when I wrote that. I was thinking of trying to find some way to get more than just a bunch of circles filled in and tell them just what my hang-ups are with such an idea and stuff like that. Well, I've e-mailed the poor sap. Now I wait.

No worries man. Either way, reades of this thread will have the heads up.

It may be worthwhile for people to contact various departments of Autodesk expressing you or your company's desire to run AutoCAD on the Mac OS.

Can't hurt.

Once AutoCAD is available for OS X, I can toss my PC for good... pray for a speedy porting of AutoCAD. Are you Autodesk people listening???

If anyone hasn't sent the email as djjava suggested, this is the email you automatically get back from Eric Stover at Autodesk:
Thank you very much for your recent inquiry about the availability of AutoCAD for the Apple Operating System.

The information in this survey is treated as Autodesk confidential and is used by our product team to gauge the overall interest in the availability of AutoCAD on the Apple platform. Your response to this survey does not represent any future purchase agreement.

Your honesty is appreciated.

Thanks again for helping shape the future directions of Autodesk products!

It's nice to see such positive reaction about this survey and the potential for AutoCAD on OS X. I know there is some anti-AutoCAD sentiments out there... But keep in mind that most programs built for both Windows and Mac platform reveal high superiority for the Mac versions.

I wasn't sure what kind of response this was going to get, but I'm glad I had djjava post the information up. Maybe we'll see in the near future AutoCAD v.X

autocad is such a crappy program (i also use it all day long)
but i think part of the problem is that it has been developed soley for windows users
if they develop a mac version and have to conform autocad to mac user expectations it can only be good for the overall autocad product
plus more competition in cad sofware is always good for users

AutoCAD is one of my courses at uni so I'm stuck. I'm in the market for a new PB and have been considering a 12" PB with VPC for AutoCAD but am a bit dudious due to lack of L3 cache. If AutoCAD is ported to OSX then I'll be a very happy camper and would order the 12" PB today.

I've used AutoCAD in a previous life, as well as ArchiCAD, and if I had a choice I'd stick with the latter if I were studying architecture - but I'm studying product design so something from Ashlar-Vellum would be better. It's a case of horses for courses.

like it, hate it, love it, despise it... it's still the industry standard and most architectural firms will need a copy of it in the office to share DWGs with other offices or whomever..

AutoCAD is crude. Dam, when will that rabid software package die and fade away like all other obsolite pices of junk.

Anyone know if Pro/Enginner will ever get ported to Mac OS?

i don't care how crude or whatever it is... the chance of it being developed for OS X is a great thing. it has the potential to be 10x more than the PC version...

Actually PTC had a similar survey running to this one by Autodesk about a year ago. I don't think it got much interest. I can't see it happening for a long time. How many macs are used in mechanical engineering? Pretty much none. IT departments would never go for it. Too retarded.

Also they've taken years to get the UI where it is and it's very windows-centric, even on *nix, just wouldn't look right on OSX. Then there's graphics cards, you'd need OSX support for a decent MCAD card, not the more traditional 'gaming' cards available for macs.

It is perfectly feasible, I just don't see the demand.

I agree. I am currently in a M. Arch I graduate architecture degree program at a very un-mac friendly program. Had a Ti originally, but had to sell and get a cheapo dell box to do my autocad and viz bidding as we are required to use these two programs in the first year. Bought a 12" Yaobook for my personal use, but I would love to be able to run autocad and viz on here if I could. Everyone in my studio is using disgusting dell laptops and I would love it if my sleek little yaobook could run these programs as well. I hate using them, but they seem to be a necessary evil in order for me to be able to work in archaic firms. On a positive note, the past few guest lecturers from prominent firms have been doing their presentations off of Ti's!
