I have had enough of this?.

This is what I am doing about it.

I have a brother in the San Diego so I rang and Apple store there and to my luck they have one in stock. My brother is picking it up today.

I works out even with taxes and fright $200.00 cheaper than Apple here in Australia

Well, I'd certainly have done that by now except I want the educational discount, and if I'm claiming it through Salary Sacrafice, I have to buy it here in Aus

Anyway, good luck! When you get it, you should visit your closest Apple store and let them know that from now on you'll be buying via the `net and not within Australia. They might pass the message back to Apple.. you never know.

I rang Apple Australia they told me that there is an international warranty on all Powerbooks.

If I want Applecare I will need to get that in the US but I have 12 months to get that.

There is no Duty to pay on new computers coming into Australia, only GST to pay.

Should be here Tuesday

This is where it is now

I think he's wondering where "Melborne" is, not "Melbourne".

good ol' "Austraylia"

Back to topic, yes, don't you have to pay duties, etc? And don't they hold it at customs for a while too?

Make sure you get a world adapter kit as well. Or you'll have an interesting time plugging that US outlet into the wall. ;-) Good thing those are pretty cheap. I bought one when I was Australia a few months ago.

Sweet. I have a friend in Australia that was thinking of doing the same with an iMac from here. Its about $800 cheaper to do the same thing you are doing. That is a BIG difference in price there. Good to have worldwide connections there with these price differences. LOL

Much the same situation in the UK, actually - very, very frustrating.

Thankfully I get an education discount and am thinking of joining the student ADC program. Even with this discount, though, the prices only become comparable to those in the US. Apple's worldwide pricing is a joke.

Check out the figures my bro pulled for this article on MacWrite

http://www.macwrite.com/applestew/fe...-the-hands.php

Unfortunately, for those of us in the UK we *do* pay duty and VAT on imported computers, which would obviously negate most of the advantage :-/
