It's not black, it's supposed to be in the dark to show you the backlight effects on the screen and the new buttons.

You're probably right -- strange that they would use that image. The person who wrote the article must not know much about iPods.
But actually it looks kind of cool -- sort of a Knight Rider look...

Anyone else disappointed that they're using red as a color? Were there voltage problems? Anyone else want blue or white? Oh well...

Yeah, but if you remember when they released the 17" PowerBook at MacWorld, the backlit keys were supposed to be blue. Instead, they are white. So perhaps we should just take this with a gain of salt for now. They could be any color for all we know.

i don't know, i thought it was kinda orangey. it's nice to see a splash of color on something so white. plus i'm sick of seeing blue accent lights (as in blue LED's).
looks pretty cool in this pic:

I saw one today (10GB version) - the keys are backlit red, a darker shade than what's shown in the picture above. It's a nice color, it just doesn't match the regular Mac color schemes. I would've thought that they'd make the backlight green to match the icon for iTunes 4.
And no, sorry, I didn't have a digital camera with me for proof (which several would probably claim I photoshopped anyway). You'll see soon enough (less than 1 week in the US, approx. 2 weeks international).
