Just wondering what everyone's resolution/refresh rate is...
I usually run 1024x768 @ 85Hz, but I just switched to 1152x870 @ 75Hz...while there is slight flicker, I don't know if I can go back to 1024x768. I feel like I have way more room...well maybe not a bunch, but a little more

1056x792 on my Apple ADC CRT 17". I'd like to run it at 1280x1024, but it's too rough on my weak eyes (the 75Hz resfresh gives me eye aches after only a few minutes). A 23" cinema display would be nice, though. The dream monitor for me would probably have to be a 22" LaCie monitor. *drool*

1024x768 @ 85 hertz on a crappy 17" Dell CRT.
It's just tiding me over though, until I save up for an SGI 1600SW LCD @ 1600x1024!

Speaking of which, I should get paid on Monday. Time to head over to eBay!

Cheers!!!

1024x768 on 15" LCD
1280x1024 on 17" CRT

having two monitors is great.. so much more room, and organization.. if you can, instead of getting a big monitor, get 2 smaller ones

1280x960@85Hz on a Samsung SyncMaster 900p (19" semiflat CRT).

Because SyncMasters use dot triads you really end up 1170x880 usable pixels when the screen is stretched to its maximum viewable edges. Any and all resolutions higher than that start to get fuzzy, 1600x1200@75Hz is supported but ends up being so fuzzy as to be impractical. A resolution of 1024x768 is sharp enough to cut through time but doesn't give me enough desktop real estate to be comfortable. So my happy medium is 1280x960. Enough screen real estate to keep OSX and me happy but not so much real estate the fuzziness gives me a migraine.

I love mine too. I had it about five days when the price went down. All my Mac-loving friends who were so jealous were thrilled to wake me up with phone calls telling me that my brand-new dream machine was now worth half what I paid for it. Thankfully I didn't find the stuck pixel for several months. I'm not sure I could have taken the pain

Monitor 1: 19" CRT 1600 x 1200 - AGP GForce Ti
Monitor 2: 19" CRT 1600 x 1200 - PCI Radeon (forget the number)
Monitor 3: 15" CRT 1152 x 870 - PCI Radeon Mac Edition

All 3 displays at 75hz refresh.

I think that makes my desktop space roughly 1600 x 3270

1280*1024 75Hz on a 17" ASD CRT.

I'd run 1600*1200 but I can't stand 60Hz (I switch to it when I need to use FCP et al, as my eyes adjust after a while to the refresh rate). If it wasn't for the refresh rate, I'd run at 1600*1200 permanently.

1280x854 PowerBook, but I'm planning on an external LCD at 1280x1024 or maybe a smaller 15" LCD at 1024x768 as second monitor.

1280 * 1024 @75Hz
sometimes 1600*1200@75Hz

anyone know how I can use the higher refresh rates? OS X will only let me select 75Hz in any resolution.

I've checked and unchecked the 'Show modes recommended by the display' and when it's unchecked I can get 640*480@75Hz woo...

I know I could get 85Hz in 10.1 but I'm not going back from 10.2.6.

PowerBook = 1280x854 (native)

PowerMac = 1152x870 @ 75 Hz, which is the best my old 17" monitor can manage without dropping down to a headache-inducing refesh rate.

I'm still waiting for that affordable 17" widescreen cinema display...

From http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/ :
  • Add 85Hz resolutions on some badly detected monitors (eg: iiyama, etc.) where the OS only allows you to use 75Hz
Well, I'd download it, but it's not worth $15 just to use 85Hz on a display that may or may not be dead in a few months/weeks/days/whatever?

Thanks for the link though.

1600x1200 @ 85hz on a sony g420 19" crt.

i've had the g420 for just over two months now and after coming from an apple 17" studio display which i had running at 1280x1024 the extra screen real estate, not to mention the display quality, certainly makes a difference.

Right now I'm stuck at 1024 * 768 = 786,432 pixels! I know both LCDs and CRTs have their strengths and weaknesses, but LCDs are so crisp (in their native resolution), bright, and slim, I'll never go back!

I'd love to have one of Apple's displays if I decide to take the plunge and update my setup and get a tower, so I've done a little pixel cost analysis...
17": 1280 * 1024 = 1,310,720 pixels @ 0.05333 each,
20": 1680 * 1050 = 1,764,000 pixels @ 0.07364 each,
23": 1920 * 1200 = 2,304,000 pixels @ 0.08676 each.

I have two 17" CRT at 1152 x 870. I could never go back to a single monitor set-up. I'm looking foward to replace them with two 17" LCD. Sure a 23" would be nice but two 17" gets you more screen estate for your buck.

1280x1024@85hz on a 17" vprMatrix CRT --
Great monitor; minimalist silver design, totally flat screen, can run 1600x1200 at a totally acceptable 75hz, and can go up to 2560x1920 (!!). It's mightly unusable up there though, very tiny and very flickery, and it's not a fully supported res (2048x1536 is, though; the monitor's connected to my PC as well via a switch and sometimes I run older games at 2048 just for kicks ).

It weighs a freakin' ton though.
Be happy.

I'm running 1024x768 @ 100Hz on my ASD 17" CRT. I'd really like to use higher resolutions, but 75Hz is a no-no for me. 85Hz is the minimum.

The moment I can order a beefed up next gen powermac I'll be running at 1600x1200*2 - it would be a crime not to get another formac 2010 along with it.
