I have a 2400c that I am looking to sell, so I checked on ebay and didn't find a single machine for or past sale. Are things things being snapped up by collectors or going to the dumpster?

Don't go by the specs alone; the PowerBook 2400 developed a good following, particularly in Japan where some fans are still upgrading their machines to keep them in good working order.

Until the PowerBook G4 12", there was also a lot of demand for a replacement for the 2400. Also, it was a fairly limited release as it was only available in the US and Japan.

My guess is many are in the hands of collectors, mostly in Japan.

i had a 2400c, if was my favorite mac.
great size, specs (for it's day, of course).
rugged, built (btw) by ibm.

look for 3400 sellers, that's the same machine basically (but larger, cd etc)

try selling there?
ie "3400 series powerbook, the 2400c, subnotebook version"

(i'm sure u can think of a better descript!)

good luck.

sure, but while he's waiting for his 603e to boot, you could've checked email, written a novel, and downloaded an osx update.

I would say that eBay, combined with the 'Ship Worldwide' option, would be a very good way to sell...

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try both options. If I can help it I'd rather trade it but we'll see. I just can't bare to take it apart it's such a unique machine.

I've bought and sold many macs over the years but I just can't part with my 2400c, so it's being used as a glorified typewriter until I can think of a better use for it.

I liked my 2400c until it slowly died until it would refuse to start to boot.

One problem I had (before the slowly dying thing) was with the mouse button. It wouldn't register the mouse click about 40% of the time. Did anyone else have that kind of trouble? It's amazing what a little thing like that can do for usability.

Anyway, I still have mine and every once in a while I have thoughts of taking a good look at it to see if I can tell what's causing the trouble. Or, if not, finding some way of getting my data off its drive.

I have a 3400 with a broken mousepad; I suspect yours has the same affliction. I've been told it's a very common problem with the 3400s. I looked on ebay last week, and every 3400 for sale had a broken trackpad button.

I even got a part to try to fix it -- unfortunately, despite what I'd been told, it wasn't QUITE the right part. My mistake. Since i have a new 12-in, my kids just use the old one for games. They just use a mouse with it, but it's kind of a pain.

I've also got a 190cs in addition to my ghz powerbook. Typing in clarisworks on the 190cs is just as fast as typing in word on the g4.

Actually, come to think of it, I bet the 190cs boots up faster, but I'd have to check. There's no question that the word processor opens faster.
