OK, I'll bite the bullet -- leaning too far towards a dual G5 desktop, and PowerBook resale values are certainly not rising :-)

My PB17 is up for sale:

Also keep in mind that MacMall is selling these brand new with a free RAM upgrade totaling 1GB (and no TAX) for $2794. However, is does not come with the extended AppleCare, which I personally never buy until the first year is almost out (in case I sell it for a newer one).

I didn't think of this earlier ...

Even if I *can* get a demo model for $2000 -- I don't know from where, but let us say from some physical store (Apple Store, Best Buy, etc. because that's where they have demo models), here in California you would be paying 8.25% tax on it. Thus you pay $2165.

Now, if I were buying it, I would certainly get AppleCare (more so if it is a demo model). AppleCare retails for $349, which again, in California is $378. You might be able to get it for a bit less (around $300) from places like Small Dog.

Thus, it comes to $2500+ even with your "killer" deal.

My asking price was based on prices of the exact same model *refurbished machines* (Apple Store, Small Dog ... as summarized on powerbookcentral.com). In other words, I was selling it for less money than these places are ($2699 out-of-the-door for PB17 + 2 years 7 months of remaining AppleCare).

I don't think I understand the reason for your comment :-)
