SCSI is a far superior technology to ATA and Serial ATA, which unfortunately also brings higher prices.

SATA caps at 150MB/sec in bursts, while a dual channel Ultra320 card can carry 640MB/sec (and that's megaBYTE, folks)

You can get SCSI cards from a number of vendors. Adaptec, ATTO, and OrangeMicro.

First, what are you looking to use the SCSI card for? This will determine whether or not you need a $20 SCSI card or a $400 SCSI card.

Add: Just realized you said scanner. You can just pick up a cheapy SCSI card for your Mac.

An Adaptec 2930 or 2940 will be perfect. You can grab those for like $10 to $20 on eBay. You can also shoot for an OrangeMicro Grappler SCSI card.

You can get away with a 10MB SCSI card and they should all work with OSX's built in SCSI support.

That $15 card will not work in a G5! It's the wrong voltage (you can tell by the number and placement of notches, this card is missing one).

I haven't been able to find definitive compatibility reports regarding SCSI cards (even ones with the correct voltage) in G5s. I am hoping that I'll be able to move my ATTO Ultra160 card that shipped with my Dual 800, but there seems to be some confusion about whether ATTO cards will actually work in the G5 or not.

The only info I've found about Adaptec cards is on xlr8 (about 1/4 of the way down the page), but it basically says that the cards with the right voltage haven't been tested with a G5 yet, so "check back later" - not very helpful

Oh, sorry. Well, if you find one with the correct voltage, driver support shouldn't be a problem.

Try ATTO or SIIG. www.attotech.com

http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/scsi_connecters.html

This is the best website for SCSI connectors.

Just match whatever it looks like.

Whatever you do, buy it off of eBay or you're looking at a $50 cable. For whatever reason, SCSI cables are godaweful expensive.

I have to get a VHDCI (SCSI-4) to 68-pin (SCSI-3) cable and they retail for $80 to $90.
