Software Update Problem

Hi all,
I've got a problem with Software Update. When I try to check for new updates (specifically the recent security update), I get the following error message:
Failed. Error occurred while checking.
I know it's possible to download these directly from Apple, but this is bugging me - does anyone have a solution?

Try deleting the
com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file
Log out, log back in,
Then try it.
