I'm curious, because I'm a professional (with a few desktop backups), and I see a lot of college students using this machine.

I use my notebook mainly for school. I'm in my last year, so this new 12" will accompany me through the next few stages of life (eg. post-graduate studies, and when I start my career).
So, I'll join you in few years as a professional with a 12" PB

I use mine for everything. Classes, work, browsing etc. Once I got a laptop, I never wanted to have a desktop again

I use it at home, but mainly at the lab where I work. As an accelerator physicist I use all kinds of UNIX flavors to control experiments or simulate models and the PowerBook does this all fine.
In our group we have about 30 PCs running Redhat Linux, 5PCs running NT or 2000 or XP and a dozen Macs. The Win machines use up about 90% of the support time.

I am a physician, currently involved in bench research, I will use my 12" for lab data analysis, image acquisition/manipulation, and manuscript preparation. If it would ever ship (due to go out TODAY!!)

I teach college, so I will be using mine for in-class presentations as well as working in and out of my office. I have a Ti 800, but it's too big and too heavy to lug around everywhere I go. The 12 is just right.

Indeed, I did mean to phrase it correctly. It was late, I think; or it was a lack of sleep. Or, perhaps, both.

I'am a physicist developing Java code for scientific purposes (space project). I live 250 miles from my working place. So at the weekends I take my Powerbook home to do work sometimes or to develop my own shareware, scan pictures for eBay, support my girlfriend and her Power Mac, shoot a few monsters, fill my iPod, transform lent dvds into vcd or do the normal web/email things.
At our institute we work mainly with Linux. This sucks very often. So, if I have work to do, I normally use my Powerbook (which means my Linux Thinkpad lives mainly in the drawer).

I own a fledgling publishing company. This means that I travel a lot. Enter the PB.
I run my business from it.

I also know a rocket scientist who has affinity for Macs. But, he's also in tune with his creative side, too.
I've also met a porn star at her home.

The question was what I do with my powerbook, not what I do, when I don't use it.
Btw, software developement is a very creative process. I don't only talk about software architecture, but also about interface-, website- and icon design.

I didn't mean to imply those of left-brained leanings had no creativity, just that my friend... ah, never mind. My apologies.

Mine is mainly used for Power Point medical presentations, database, and web surfing; but I also do some 3D and photoshop stuff with it.
