Hi, My right arrow key, and to some degree the function key, is raised above all the other keys.

I am worried that is will leave a mark on the screen and it does not look very nice.

I have tried pressing it down, but over time it becomes raised again.

Do I have to send it in to apple for repairs or can I repair it myself.

Is is raised on the left hand side of the right arrow key, as if the the scissor mechanism is not even, or the key is not in place correctly?

Thanks

How strange! Mine right arrow key is raised too! It came out the th box that way and I have also tried a bit to get it down. I have not tried to remove it though - I don't want to make it worse! I keep a screen protector so I am not overly worried about this one and only flaw of an otherwise perfect laptop! I would never send it in for this either. But, I would mention it if ever goes in for a real reason and I do plan on stopping it by an Apple Store to see if some genius can fix it.....

Mine also arrived this way.

I too don't want to be without my laptop for over a week just for a key. But if it starts to affect the screen I will start jumping up and down.

Please email me if you find a way to fix it.

Cheers

On my new 15 inch my arrow keys are fine but my escape key is slightly sloped down towards the F1 key. It's not sticking up more than any other keys, but it is bugging the crap out of me. Also, my left command key is picky where I press it. If i hold it on the far left side (which I commonly do), it won't register. I have to press it from the middle to the far right to get it to go. It also makes a small clicking noise none of the other keys do.

Don't bother sending it in. Apple will only say that the keys being raised are "up to specs". I know because I am on my 4th 17"Powerbook and all of them shipped with a raised right arrow key and my new 17" Rev B has both the right arrow key and the fn key raised. Just a weird design from the factory but they won't touch the screen due to the gap between the screen and the palm rest.
Buy a screen protector or place a soft sheet between the screen and the keyboard if you feel more comfortable.

Rev A 17", right arrow key and the blank space key between the right arrow key and shift key are raised. Can push them down, but they work their way back up again.

I thought this was a known defect in Rev A 17", or in the first batches at least.

Has this been fixed in late Rev A or Rev B models?

> i've popped it (gently), and it's popped back (gradually) ... still works OK, but is sometimes annoying when it squeaks!

You'll think I'm making this up - I'm not. I've used regular scotch tape to tape down the right arrow key when I'm not using the Powerbook. After a few months like this it seems to be where it should - vs sticking up.

Blank plastic above the key also slopes!!

Just anoying as I paid a huge premium because I wanted OSx, and didn't want the problems that the 15" brought to the table.

Oh well - nothing is perfect...

The keyboards are just stuck onto the aluminum with a tape like material. Just push down fairly firmly on the offending keys.

That fixes it for about 15 minutes.
The keys work their way back up.
