Finally hunkered down and got the bluetooth modem working with my Siemens S55.

Some general resources and tips:

Ross Barkman's Home Page has every friggin modem script.

Here, Ross has a collection of connection settings for many, many, providers.

You need to create a serial port from your computer to your phone. The Bluetooth Setup Assistant is the easiest way. I wasted an hour trying to figure this out. If you don't do this, you'll get a error almost immediately after you hit the connect button. Can't remember exactly what the dialog said, but it was something like "Can't communicate with device".

Info that may be specific to my setup (12"PB/S55/T-Mobile):

Make sure Send PPP echo packets is turned off in PPP Options. I turned this off and it elected to turn itself back on. Having this on will cause a disconnect right after you authenticate.

The script that worked for me was "Siemens GPRS CID2"

I didn't need to enter anything in the fields under PPP. The links above, as well as other sites, say to put the APN under the Telephone Number field. This gave me a "Check Settings" error.

I'm going out of town for a couple days, but I'll be glad to answer any questions when I get back.

subego,

Any tips? I just picked up my S56 and of course am going through the hassles of clueless support folks.

I am with Cingular and have an unlimited wireless internet plan.

I downloaded the Modem Scripts, Setup a Bluetooth modemin system preferences, used the BT Setup Assistant to create the connection.

But I still get nothing working on the other end.

How do you have an unlimited wireless internet plan? I thought only T-mobile had unlimited wireless internet. In fact, I called Cingular last night to see how much it would cost to get out of my contract ($150) to go to t-mobile to get said unlimited internet...

Sorry, I didn't see your question until today...

More info would be helpful. Where does it crap out on you?

I just did a quick scan of the Cingular site. Not particularly informative. I did get the impression you had to "activate" your phone from their website. Could that be the hang-up?
