Equipment: Al 15" 1.25Ghz Superdrive, 80GN stock model. OS 10.3.2.

Start up in Single user mode (press Apple key and S key together at start up).

Force file system check by typing fsck -f. See if you get this warning.

"Warning: IO PlatformMonitor not found"

If I run fsck -f again it doesnt show. But next time I start up in single user mode, it's there again.

I have confirmed it with one other Al 15" owner in the peripherals forum, we both have Soundsticks and were trying to figure out why we were losing sound when our displays went to sleep. Maybe this has something to do with it, maybe it doesn't.

Was curious if anyone else has experienced this. If so, is it important?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Echo

Yes I get that too.

Does your PB crash somewhat frequently too? Coz I'm wondering if that missing file is the problem.. My crash log seems to indicate something amiss about the Radeon card.

If you all get the error, maybe it's not an error...

Thank you all for checking this for me.

Btw, do any of you have the Harmon/Kardon Soundsticks? If so, does your sound cut out sometimes?

Daftpig, I have not had a single crash, nor any issues with my Radeon card. My advice would be to upgrade to 10.3.2 if you haven't done already as it adds new drivers for Radeon cards. Or, if you have, this might be the reason why you get the crashes, possibly when you upgraded, it might have messed up during installation. Try running the 10.3.2 istaller again, or you may need to reinstall Panther. Just my thoughts though, not sure about it at all.

iNeusch, have you experienced this? Know what the PlatformMonitor is?

My brand new 15" does this too, and has done from the day it was delivered. I called Apple's UK tech support the very same day but the tech guy said he didn't know what it meant.

Great, eh?

BTW, I don't have any external speakers (USB or otherwise) or, indeed, use my Powerbook with anything other than (sometimes) my Bluetooth phone.

The "Warning" message that appears when fsck is run is worrying, particularly when I don't know what it is. It would be good to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks SpoonEK2 and cms.

Yeah, it is annoying. I must have spent 3 hours trying to fix this, even did a reinstall as I thought that I had messed up something that was causing my sound cut out at times.

Frustrating... Wonder if this is one of those annoying message like we used to get with Jaguar when Repairing Permission (it used to say "Using special file permissions" or something). Hope so.

The using special permission thing was for the ufs format file or something and was NOT an error
it was made that way by apple

you really shouldn't look for errors where there are none
maybe this is not true for that PlatformMonitor not found message but...
If it ain't broken, don't fix it
