Does anyone have any experience in buying an open box laptop? I was quoted what I consider to be a good price on a 17".
It was a demo model which someone purchased and then returned within 10 days. Original price $3299.00 and current price is $1999.00
All feedback welcome....

I'll tell you when I worked at CompUSA the only reason they ever sold openboxes was because they couldn't send it back to the manufacturer, for what ever reason. I would say at best your looking at 70% it being perfect. But remember if it seems to good to be true, it probably is, but again if they give you 10 days to test it out, it may well be worth it.

As long as you're still getting the warranty, you can't go wrong at that price.
Even if the store can't send it back, Apple is still obligated to service it for a customer with a warranty.

-Test drive it thoroughly. Drives, Screen, Make sure all the keys on the KB work. Make sure you get a fresh warranty, if not insist on a deeper discount.

Finally made it back to the apple store today, and I bought the open box 17" for $1999.
It came with the full apple warranty, panther and ilife '04. There is one small scratch on the top of the machine, but other than that it is perfect.
The keyboard is amazing...very nice touch. Also, I was hesitant about the size, but it actually is more comfortable than the Ti.
Wish me luck!!!

I got this iBook 500/DVD from CompUSA for $1000, including Applecare a few years ago, it had some minor scuff marks on the casing, and has been a great computer.

The 1.33 ghz was$2499. I admit I debated on this one for a bit, but ultimately decided the 1 ghz would suit my needs just fine, as well as my wallet for an additional $500. in savings.
The apple store is located in upstate NY, but I would imagine all apple stores have open boxes at a discount.
I am loving this machine...
