That's ridiculous! I just checked, and you're right. Amazing that they won't put the commonly accepted misspelling "sherbert" in the dictionary (it's "sherbet"), but they'll accept
Expressing frustration at the realization that things have turned out badly or not as planned, or that one has just said or done something foolish. Also (usu. mildly derogatory): implying that another person has said or done something foolish.
Well...at least in the history of the word, it doesn't begin with the Simpsons:
1945 T. KAVANAGH It's That Man Again (B.B.C. radio script: 8th Ser. No. 166), Tom: Yes, out of the nest-Diana: What nest? Tom: In those whiskers-Diana: Dooh! Its [sic] no good talking to you.

1945 T. KAVANAGH It's That Man Again (B.B.C. radio script: 8th Ser. No. 167), Diana: The man I marry must be affectionate and call me Dear-Tom: Oh you're going to be a stag's wife-Diana: Doh! Tom: Same thing.

1952 A. BUCKERIDGE Jennings & Darbishire xii. 183 Doh! An anguished gasp of exasperation rang out loud and clear as Mr Wilkins found his voice again.

Something i've noticed a few times on IRC the last week, might be old, might not, but i've never seen it before.

Instead of saying 'that's very lame' they'll say 'lame++'

hmm... annoying++ more like. f***ing geeks.

Procrastinate had meant to become a "big" word earlier, it just hadn't gotten around to it...

GROAN.

Thank god *perogative* seemed to go away with Bobby Brown, or whoever that was.

I vote for: Grunties

I use whatever word fits the context of my sentence, and if it aids in increasing the eloquence thereof, bonus.

If "procrastinate" is called for, I use it. "Concur" is also a much nicer word than "yeah". It also fits my speech patterns far better than other methods of agreement; "I concur".

Eh, whatever, depends. I don't use them because they're buzz-words or anything.

I guess the aversion to procrastinate has spread, but it's has been replaced, in a swing-of-the-pendulum sort of way, by the latest:

In our ongoing effort to better serve HP customers, we're introducing Edge subscribers to a new HP home and home office email subscription tool. Going forward, you will be able to sign up...

GOING FORWARD

Got to be the most overused phrase of the year, already so soon.
If I hear another politico/PR type/business leader/whaddever use it, I'll, I'll, I'll EXPLODE

Any other candidates "at this point in time" (or is that "at this juncture")?

I heard 'rents used back in the late eighties by people who used bulletin boards before the internet.

What college was it that put out a list of words each year that should be retired because of overuse?

Last year it was words like "Weapons of Mass Destruction" and "Extreme". I hate hearing the word "extreme". I was ticked when Apple used it for the new 802.11g airport cards. I thought they could have been a little more original.

My favorite words are "embiggen" and "cromulent".

I'm giving it 110% 24/7. I'm going the distance, because, Andi, I came here to play ball.
