Well, my question is pretty much in the subject - at what temperature will the iBook G4 fan kick in? I've haven't found any info about this anywhere on the web. Please enlighten me.
Oh, it just hit me, this might differ from CPU to CPU. I'm running the 800 MHz variant.

So, according to my bed, iTunes visuals and Temperature Monitor the trigger temperature is at 67 degrees celsius. I had my bets on 70. I wonder if this Temperature Monitor thing is accurate?
On a side note, I prefer the G4 fan over the G3 one.

I'm running a program called ThermographX. The only time I've ever heard my fan click on was when I was playing a Medal of Honor demo...when i closed the game i saw that the temp on my CPU was 164 F and my GPU was around 145 F. I'm on a 1GHz G4.

Well, I wouldn't call it quieter. It just sounds completely different. The sound is.. cleaner, I guess. It sounds more fan-ish.
I always thought the G3 iBook fan sounded really suspicious.
Uuuu---uu-uu--uu-uu-u-r-r-rr-rrr-r-rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
But now, fffffffsssssshhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
You see the difference?

Actually, the G3 fan, and the 12 inch powerbook G4 fan are the same. The iBook G4 uses a new quieter fan that doesnt require a certain current to turn on that way you dont get that blast in the beginning so it doesn't wear out as fast. -my 2 cents-

On a 14" G4 iBook (933 MHz) the only time the fan has ever come on is when playing Civ III with the CD in the drive.
