Hello.

I'm trying to play a .mkv file. Both VLC and MPlayer give me sound but no pict. Am I missing a codec?

Thanks.

Matroska is a container format. It can contain any type of video. Unfortunatly among matroska users, the Real Video format is really popular. No idea why. Anyways. VLC and Mplayer are unable to use external proprietary codecs like Real Video and Window Media Video 3.
