does anybody else have this problem? if so, do you have a fix for it?

i have my document open. i'm editing. i select some text and attempt to drag it. Word "unexpectedly" quits. every time. i can force it, so it's hardly unexpected.

things never used to be this bad, so i'm wondering if, perhaps, it's related to a recent revision of OS X (i'm using 10.3.3) conflicting with something? i'm just about to delete the hell out of it, then reinstall, in case it's damaged somewhere. i figured i'd see if anyone else suffered too.

Before you reinstall, try deleting the Word Preferences.

eh, i was already having too much fun deleting MS w@nk off the machine

okay. total deletion of the main Office folder, all MS prefs and the folder it so obnoxiously leaves in ~/Documents

i reinstalled from the disc, applied one update (let's not go nuts here), and all seems well. in fact, it looks better too (from an anti-aliasing point of view). let's see how long this lasts.

for anyone about to suggest i should use Nisus, or something similar (yes, i know TextEdit opens .doc files), i rely on the comments feature in Word. i've even tried Abiword in X11, but there were other issues then.

any further weirdness, i'll post it here. in the meantime, i'd still ike to know if this has been a problem for anyone else, and, if so, what did you attribute it to?

Do you have all the bugfix updates at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/ installed?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

i didn't previously, but i am working my way through them one at a time. if things go okay with the first one, i'll probably leave it there (if it ain't broke...). once i'm done with all these deadlines and stuff, i'll probably whack it right up to the present version (10.1.5, i think).

While on the topic of drag and drop from word....any word on why drag and dropped text into iChat generates a blank black jpeg...instead of copying the text.

man, i hate that! i end up copying into a text editor, then cutting it out of there. PITA.

yeah, that's one of my major gripes with Word. when i'm writing essays and things for History i often copy little bits for a friend to read, but i usually end up having to copy what i want into a new word document, saving that one as a plain text file, opening that file in TextEdit, and copying from there.
