It seems like there have been problems with the first batch of the new 12" models. Just wondering how many have already gotten a new 12" this last week that was perfect right out of the box? How many didn't?

12" PB with 4X SuperDrive and 768 megs RAM.

So far, everything is fine.

I did have one dead pixel in the top left quadrant of the sceen. But I can easily ignore those things.

LCD seems brighter than the Rev B's and the keyboard feels tighter and sturdier too.

Heat is still a problem. Nothing was improved there.

Got it perfect the 3rd time =(... But at least it's perfect now.

1st one: Bought on Monday, the same day it came out:
- 1 dead pixel
- broken left shift key
- not enough power for external USB 2.0 drive

2nd one: Exchanged on Tuesday
- Charger indecator won't turn orange while charging (charger works on rev B)
- not enough power for USB drive

3rd one: Exchanged on Wednesday
- USB drive works, no dead pixel, good keyboard, good charger lights.

However rev C's top case is a lot harder to pry open than rev B. very tight. I see minor defects like bent metal clips inside the case especially on the connectors side. I think that's what caused the broken USB ports and charger LED.

What problems with the first batch? Necrocool's the only person I've seen with problems. Other sources?

It's just that Necrocool had 2 bad ones in a row before getting a good one and he said someone brought in one with problems while he was there. At least three within the first week in one store. It may just be random chance, but, unless quite a few people come forward saying they got perfect ones this last week, I doubt it. So people, please come forward if you got a good one (in part because I'm thinking of buying one this week!)

Yes, you can. I am more than pleased with my revision C 12-inch. I will add the keyboard is extra sturdy ... feels like it will hold up better over the long run. DVD playback is the best I have seen yet on any laptop (outside of other priceier PowerBooks). No dead pixels, not a one ... first time in years I have not had at least one pesky pixel. Again, battery life is amazing. Easily 3 hours, pushing 4 depending on Combo drive use, etc.

I know a backlight keyboard is more cool than useful, but if the 12-inch had that and an ATi graphics core with 64MB or more ... it we be perfect IMO.

Good luck to all new buyers, I know it can be a downer getting a not perfect machine from Apple, but hang in there. Mine was fine, and yours can be too!

My 12" superdrive is perfectly fine. Everything works.

.. Upgrading from a 15" 1ghz titanium, and I find this laptop amazing. Everything I wanted, and more. Incredibly sturdy compared to the titanium.

Mine's fine, and my buddies is fine. Nothing wrong with our new 12ins, except for the fact that we both think our power adaptors get a tad too hot.

The heat of the new 12ins is quite a bit cooler then the original 12ins, which my roomie has. It does not bother my legs at all.

It's beautiful.

So it seems that the majority, by far, of new 12" have been perfect, or nearly so. Anyway, I just ordered one myself today, Superdrive, standard issue (not BTO). When it comes I'll add my results.

My Rev C 1.3 12" Powerbook works perfect.

no dead pixels. quiet. gets VERY warm..but not too hot like a Rev A I use at times does.

Not wild about the screen, as the angle of viewing has to be just perfect to view it acceptably... other than that..a nice machine.

And yes..someone else mentioned the keyboard seems sturdier..I agree.

Farmboy,

I was at a local computer store this evening looking at there PC laptops out of curiosity. Both a Sony Vaio and Certified Data laptop had LCD displays that had the same magenta tint (when viewed from an angle) as your 12" PB display. In contrast, the 15" Compaq display had excellent color and brightness, and had a large viewing angle.
