Can anyone clue me in. If I plug a 12" PowerBook, with a max. resolution of 1024 x 768 on the built-in display, into an external 21" monitor, with a max resolution of 1600 x 1200, and close the lid on the PowerBook, will the desktop that is displayed on the monitor be 1024 x 768 or 1600 x 1200?

In System Preferences, if you have mirroring turned on, it will be 1024x768 and display exactly what you see on the PB screen. if you turn that off, then each screen will get its own display preferences and you can set the size on the external to whatever you like.

is the internal display off when the lid is closed? and is all video memory then allocated to the external display?
