Im thinking about replacing my 40GB hard disk to a 80GB hard disk on my ibook 600mhz.

Does anyone knows if the ibook can handle this hard disk size ?

Thanks..

Yes, the iBook can accept and use a 9.5 mm tall 80 gb 2.5 inch hard drive. Be aware that the installation takes considerable care and skill. You may wish to have a technician perform the operation. You are looking at removing many tiny screws, popping apart plastics without damaging them, pulling ribbon connectors, and keeping track of a myriad of tiny screws and where they go. The iBook seems designed intentionally difficult to change out the drive. A near complete disassembly is needed to gain access.

Helpful Tip: Use a little piece of scotch tape to tape each screw removed form the aluminum shield near its original hole. Then you don't need to remember where they go nor worry about them rolling away.

Hi,

Just put a 40gb 5400 in my 600mhz. It wasn't that hard at all. What I did was each time I took out a screw I laid it out on a piece of paper, and then numbered the step and wrote where the screw was and how many there were. Taped the screws there so I had kind of a checklist/sequence of screws.

That was really helpful. Being careful is correct, being patient is even more important I think. But the job is definitely doable.

Good luck!!

Or... just print out this PDF and you'll be all set.

I already open and change the original 15 gb disk from my ibook, later i fix an airport antenna problem with the screen, make an overcloking on this machine, so opening and closing it its like my every 6 months ritual.

thanks for the pdf, it will help me (i allways end with 1 or 2 extra screws)..
