Have you tried Zombie, from badmoon.org ?

Just stay away from Hotline Communications, for your own safety.

Currently Zombie is still the only useable X hotline clone. Unfortunately, you have to put up with Badmoons lame-ass propoganda and annoying icons.

If the dl site for zombie is not up, try getting on Carracho X or Hotline Classic and surf around sites until you find Zombie. It is all over the place I am certain, and it is distributable (beta software anyway).

Hotline has been slipping - greed has overwhelmed most resources on the web, including pathetic "no banners" hotline servers that enjoy ridiculous password schemes.... I use Zombie to access some of the
lessor known Hotline servers - there are still a few good sites left that offer instruction, tips, clip art and software, but all in all the whole scene sucks.

Zombie works - although it crashes on every quit and has no tracker support.

I had the same problem trying to download from badmoon.org. So, i took a chance and went to:
http://homepage.mac.com/bad_moon/

I was able to download Zombie b13 and a bunch of other stuff there.

I know a Carracho server where you can get Zombie .

Carracho is much better than HL, that's certain, but there are some good HL servers, they're just really hard to find these days.

How about getting hx running in a terminal window? I had it running in the public beta, worked great. Yeah, it takes some figuring to get it set up, but it's a really decent client once you get it working.
And besides the point, it's just cool running hotline in your terminal window.

GHX works too in XFree... I put a patch for hx in fink, if you care.

I'm also working on a random Cocoa HL clone, it currently logs in and I don't have much time to work on it. It's also getting data... Currently moving some code around so I can work with transactions split across multiple packets and so on. Next I need to parse it. And finish learning Cocoa

I'm currently playtesting a hotline clone called Frogblast that looks very promising. It's written in Cocoa. This was designed for *real* hotline communities, so chat functions are full implemented, but file download functions have not been finished yet.

I'll post screenshots later, maybe.

Zombie is great.. You can have Peer to Peer file transfers, and add a ton of cool plugins to it. It has a nice clean interface (although its kinda deathish) and you can change the look by using different Res Packs. Try the OS 9 res pack.. its the one i use. Also, make sure you get the badmoon icons.
