Video

It looked like a Hollywood stunt. But it wasnt. A high speed takedown on the 401 near Nielson turned the highway into a scene of real life drama early Wednesday. And it ended as suspensefully as it began.

O.P.P. Whitby officers were at the wheel, when they were forced to ram a fleeing van into the concrete divider just after 5am. That stopped the vehicle in a shower of sparks, as it skidded to a reluctant halt.

But the chase, which had reached speeds of over 160 kilometres an hour, didnt end there two suspects immediately jumped out and made a mad dash for freedom, running across the road to try and escape.

But they didnt get far. Cops were in hot pursuit, jumping one man right away, and running down another in the median of the highway.

Works on a Mac. No prob.

Quick thinking cop in that squad car. People would've definitely got hurt if the suspect would've ran into that accident site.

WOW!
I wonder why that second cop car didn`t just run the guy over that was running away?

Worked great for me. Great piece of driving! You gotta love that; that cop saved a serious problem up the road by stopping those jerks short. I thought the "stop resisting" part was funny. Where I live, they would have beat the crap out of him, then politely asked to stop resisting...

Interesting that they rammed him. Normally they shoot out the tires and wait, but I guess they didn't want to chance it.

If you are running from the cops, and placing others in danger, they should just shoot and save the taxpayers money

They can't shoot the tires out. Bullets may not penetrate, or worse hit an innocent.
Normally, in the states they T-bone the car by clipping the rear quarter-panel. I've never seen that maneuver before, and am amazed at how effective it was. Hats off to those cops. They most certainly saved more than one life.

Doesn't work in VLC 0.6.2, WMP7 or WMP9 for me. that's enough effort.

Not to mention that this was on open highway with other vehicles. (There was a big semi on the bottom left of the video.) If that guy went out of control with blown tires that'd be a major problem.
