I've learned to view source and copy the following text into my address field, because the new topic gif is rarely shown by Safari on my computer, but the source is in the browser.

Code:
newthread.php?s=&action=newthread&forumid=82
Before some clever person belches forth the obvious, this is NOT a "sign"

Uh, what do you think that snippet of code is? Because it isn't the image (images are linked to in HTML, not embedded inside) and it isn't a link to the image. That's just part of the URL to create a new thread.

Have you tried emptying Safari's cache?

Yeah, I understand that code isn't the image. The code for the image tag follows shortly after in the source.

I meant to say that I use that code these days to create a new topic on macnn's forums because the link is not available when the gif does not show.

Thanks.

Do you have any ad blocking software in use? or maybe UserContent.css
That would explain :-P

Thanks all for the interesting suggestions, but nothing seems to work. I tried emptying the cache. Still no new topic gif in Safari.

Well, I'm having the same problem too on other sites.
All I'm seeing is a small blue square with a question mark in it.
I've check all Preference and don't see any options affecting this.
Anyone know how to fix this?

i had this problem as well and the only thing that got rid of it was turning off PithHelmet and getting rid of the custom stylesheet i was using. do a search in the software forum for some possible answers.
