First off lets be clear that I own the DVDs in question here.
My primary purpose for copying MY DVDs is simply because I have young kids (and a wife for that matter :-) who simply can not take care of any sort of disk. They get lost, destroyed, or in the latest case stolen from my car - along with a DVD player while on vacation.
I backup audio CDs for the same reason and keep the original safe.

So - the question is can this be done? I suspect that the process would be to rip the DVD into mpeg audio and video streams, remux, split at the appropiate boundries and re-author a DVD. I don't care about any of the extras on the disk - just the main movie with no menu at all would be great.
I would prefer to use open source tools as much as possible and it looks like all the parts are out there but I have yet to get past the remux and split stage. Re-encoding at a lower bit rate is also not an option. Any ideas?

Nothing personal, but try a search. A good primer is this forum link.

Thanks for the reply.
There was nothing applicable in the last 30 days so I thought I would just ask.

I also found http://forums.afterdawn.com/ which seems to have all the answers.
