I keep seeing this on different posts, not to mention in the menus of menu OS X apps. Services. I've searched for info on them, but have found nothing really. Can anyone give me a general summary of what they are and why I should care about them?

Thanks a million.

To put it simply, Services are a way to use one Cocoa application from within another Cocoa application.
F'rinstance, here's one I've used: While browsing the Web with OmniWeb, I spot an interesting bit of info. I highlight the text that contains the info, then go to the Services submenu and choose "Email text."
Bingo! A Mail.app message window appears, with the highlighted text contained in the body of the message.

I like using the omniweb service, highlight any text and it will open a new webpage with the text as the url. I really hope developers actually use services because they are a cool idea but I can easily see them just not being implemented.

I don't understand why I'm never able to access the "Grab" services. No matter what program I'm in, Grab services (and a few other ones) are always grayed out.

Does anyone know how to activate them?

The Grab Service will only work in apps where a picture can be 'pasted'. So, I think you can launch 'Preview' and then use the Grab service.

I think this is the biggest problem with the whole 'Services' menu. There is nothing intuitive or logical about it.
