To show less dirt/finger smudges possibly over time?

The old 20 gig came with a dock, a remote and a case. This new one comes with nothing. It's the 15 gig with 25% more storage at the same price.
I'm not saying that these new iPods suck, they just do nothing to compel me to upgrade. I am underwhelmed.
Honestly, I expected a more drastic upgrade then this.

has anyone found these at retail locations?
i phoned the closest apple store here and they said they are getting them in a few days.
off topic, i did find airport express there. (going to get one tonight) online store still says 3 - 4 weeks before shipping.

Corrected. You have then/than confusion.
I like the 20GB size and price point. Too bad the remote and dock aren't included but I can do without. Are the headphones accessory new? I don't like the earbuds but the in-the-ear style might fit me better.

I have a 2G 10GB and I definitely will get this upgrade. Most likely the 20GB and just buy the dock separate. I think it's worth it. And I don't know about this gray scroll wheel, I don't think it looks to bad, and it might look better in person I could care less, I just want one so bad! not picky

Wow...you rich rich git....WHY!?
Anyway, I know it's very early and far fetched, but are there any pictures of the new iPod 4G in person? I mainly wanna see a side by side comparison (in thickness) and what the scroll wheel looks like with a reg. camera.

This newest release is yet another reason why the iPod minis are way overpriced. I can't see any reason to spend $50 less to get less than a fourth of the capacity of the now $299 20GB iPod, just to have bit smaller and colored device. Maybe to some people the minis are just a fashion statement but I think they should either make them 10GB or bring the price down to something like $159.

I think I'll either get a new one, or an old fifteen gigger.
The new ones are 30 dollars CND more than the old ones, thus they're like 70 bucks difference. And that's like... ten hours worth of work at work... sigh... I'm thinking of things in how long it took me to make the money... I"M GETTING RESPONSIBLE.
I think I might go with a silver mini, or I might avoid the wait and get a new iPod... I still think the old ones look ugly... sigh... so many gadgets to get...

Do a comparison on the price of JUST the naked hard drive.
When you've stopped laughing maniacally, come back and share.
Apple's pricing is on the spot.

Not really. It's like buying last years model of car. While you may save $20 - $40 now, in a year or two if you choose to sell it, the G3 will be 1/2 the value of the G4 (potentially).
I would do whatever you can to get the educational discount.
$269 for a brand new 20 GB iPod - G4

I see your point. But to the average consumer, $50 for 16 more GBs just seems crazy. I guess when the .85in drives either go up in capacity or down in prcie the iPod offerings will seem a little more balanced.

As I recall, Spheric isn't normally too supportive of Apple's value added choices, so when HE approves of their pricing... Of course I could be wrong. nah....

so my 4g finally arrived.
it is awesome, i did the whole unpacking photos thing. if anyone wants them then reply. i am a bit busy today, so only later i will be able to upload then.
one thing i noticed is that my ipod was face down in the box when i opened, and that do not steal music wrapper was not on properly. there is a little glue residue on the click wheel too. iklear is good stuff, it has gotten all the residue off.
it is busy charging now, i can't wait to play with it.
i think the image on that site was a 40gig 3g, i compared it to my 15gig 3g and it is not *that* much smaller.
besides the width is the same size. the music menu is nice. i normally had playlists, artists, etc, on the front, now they are in music, saves space on the front. can put contacts and calendar there now and not have a scrollbar on the front. it bothered me having a scrollbar on the front for some reason.
other than that, i can't really post much more news.
i will as soon i get to play with the wheel and put some music on it.

It's got to be the 40 gig. The new 20 gig is only 1/20th of an inch thinner then the 3G 20 gig. The thickness of 5 or 6 playing cards and probably not noticable unless you hold both together and look at them side by side.

I'd like to see some pics of the side profile, and with it in your hand to gauge the thinness.

Anyone got any more real-world pictures of the iPod? I'm very interested to see width comparison from the 3G to the 4G. I did see some pictures on PC Mag but i'd like to see a long ways comparison. Yeah, I know i'm picky. But actually, i'd take anything
