Ordering my 12" powerbook tonight and I can get either a 60 gig or 80 gig (for an additional $113)

Should I? The 60 is 4200 the 80 is 5400. Is it worth it?

thanks!!!

Get the 80 GB 5400. Faster and larger is always better. Congrats on the new PowerBook!

I gotta chime in as well. You will definitely see a noticable difference if you compare the two side-by-side. If you can afford the faster drive, by all means do it. Especially if you intend to use it for audio recording at all. Writing AIFF files is very drive-intensive. I'm thinking about upgrading my 15" to a 7200 rpm drive as soon as they hit 80 GB, because right now, I max out this 5400 drive with about 15-16 tracks of AIFF. (one way--reading.) Don't even THINK about reading and writing AIFF files to a 4200 rpm drive at the same time. You'll need an external drive, which negates the cost-savings.

thanks folks, I'm going to get the bigger drive and wait on my wireless mouse to help offset cost. That with the education discount and the cram and jam coupon, I can ALMOST afford this!

thanks again!

well I do a "lot" of video editing too so I think this will only help me (RPMS much less the space!)

I'm very excited and to finally be wireless with the express!!!!

I will miss my iMac and the HUGE screen but I used to have 2 ibooks so I will survive. It will just take my getting old eyes a little while to get used to it.

thanks!

The 5400rpm drive is definitely worth the extra cash! I would say it's the best upgrade you can get from the apple store.

On another note I'm guessing you're a teacher/professor if you have "old eyes" but are still somehow getting the edu discount. That, or you are depriving your first born of getting the laptop of their dreams for college hehe... not that that's a bad thing!
