Actually before anyone jumps on me I think that this was a missed opportunity for Apple. With Jobs' clout and Pixar being so financially successful it wouldn't of hurt to put a Mac behind those blue ears. It would never of happened though with Steve-o burning bridges the way he does.

I think it's cute. I especially like the speakers in the ears. Maybe Ives copied this idea for the g4 iMac.

Disney is marketing this computer for children, complete with parent controls. The mouse is meant for really small hands.
Too bad Disney chose Windows instead of Mac though. :/

I wonder how Apple would handle a company like Disney approaching them and saying "We would like you to build a Mac with a Disney theme"?

I think that's one of the reasons that our market-share is eroding. Apple should be going out and striking deals with companies like Disney to build a line of computers with OS X on it. I'm not talking about licensing like back in the old day, I'm talking about taking the guts of an eMac or iMac and making different looking computers. The only people that would know any different are those of us that are Apple fanatics.
I could even see theme computers... like the Hulk, Spiderman, Star Wars...
I'll even go one step further and say girly computers, tough guy, etc. etc.
All of which are the same computer but with different looks to them.
Anything to keep Apple strong and expand the user base.

I've thought similarly to Mitchell with regards to Apple finding partners for Macs. I started thinking about it in the days of the Dalmation and Flower Power iMacs. I thought it might be cool for them to partner up with a media group like Time Warner or Disney to produce themed consumer Macs aimed at children. Where the Dalmation iMac had the funky spots on the CRT shell a themed system might have some cartoon or comic book characters. The systems could come pre-loaded with themed games instead of the standard Cro-Mag Rally or whatever they're shipping now (Diemos Rising?).
The eMacs would make pretty sweet machines for such a scheme since they'd be fairly easy to apply a theme to. A decorated shell and a slightly different hard drive image would be the only real differences between the normal eMac and the themed one. They could simply just partner with MacSkinz (if they every start selling their damn products again!!!) to make a shell wrapper with a particular design on it. They could also probably get some universities to hop on the bandwagon if they could offer them eMacs skinned with the school's mascot. Some buyers are suckers for that sort of gimmicky crap. If they're just external wraps the school could remove them in twenty years when they sell them at auction.

I'm sure Apple wouldn't go for it because the computers might not look as good.
I just see it as a simple way to expand the market (until everyone else jumps on board)

Yeah, the flower power iMacs were such a big hit.

A return of the Cube would totally rock, I would even consider buying one if the specs are good. (+2 Ghz single G5)

Nice but I think the iMac needs to stay an all in one or have its own monitor that is removable (headless)

I would love to see one that is headless, with a monitor option that is perfectly built for it or possibly able to be connected.
It really doesn't matter, Apple could give me exactly what I wanted and 70%+ would complain.
I just don't see having dual monitor support and space for a second HD as being such a "pro" feature.

If it includes one of those screens I can't imagine it being very cheap.
Looks good though.

The only issue I have with it is... the LCD is locked in place. At least the old LCD was movable. Perhaps something like that, but where the head "slides" up and down to adjust.

Wow! I think Ives just got out-Ivesed by that design. Add an optional stand like the eMac and we have a winner. By the way, I'm talking about that MacKompass AIO. not the mickey mouse piece of...well you get the idea.

I find the white plastic and brushed aluminum jarring to my eyes.
Perhaps if I saw it in person.

Yes, i did. In fact I had been looking for a way to generate some traffic on my new site. This ended up in about 97% international visitors. Pretty useless for a german site.

Very nice. I wonder if 250,000 people pre-purchased them for say $1499 (hey it's a semi-pro system), if Apple would make em . Surely we could tie up $1500 for say 6 months. Heck we do that already with most new Apple products anyway.
All most folks need to change is the vid card nowadays, the rest can be external. Give me a full size vid card slot and I'm happy.
One can only hope that this designer takes over as President, CEO and VP of Design for Apple.

Dang, I as planning on getting one for myself, I wouldn't want to be called a child though...
Hey, maybe it's good that they chose Windows. Many people have the impression that Macs are "toy computers" already, this certainly wouldn't help that.

The OS X GUI can give that impression unfortunately.

A colored Al-Cube is the way to go! I would much prefer if the monitor was independent of the machine. Apple make that wish come true

I thought Apple hit a home run with the G4 iMac design. Current Design is excellent and suits my needs perfectly.
However that isn't to say that a revamped model along similar design principles would not be an improvement.
I think a radical departure might actually hurt the iMac image. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised by what they introduce (i usualy am).
Changes I'd make:
1. Make the enclosure annodised aluminium like the Powerbooks with a glowing Apple logo. Make the enclosure slightly bigger and put more holes in it for cooling (sort of Powermac mesh look) if necessary.
2. Add a G5 1.8 and 2Ghz.
3. Make the monitor detachable (and therefore user selectable/upgradable) but retain the absolutely fabulous arm mechanism in the current G4 iMac! That thing ROCKS!
4. 512Mb standard RAM (with 2 spare slots)
5. Make the Hard Drive bay accessible from the rear so you can easily change/replace HD.
What do you think?

- 24" iMac 2.4Ghz 4GB 500GB
- PMG4 450Mhz 384Mb OSXserver.
- iPhone 3GS

Styrofoam packaging doesn't fit that model. No keyboard, no manuals, no cables.

There's a long thread over at Appleinsider dicussing these pictures, and there is now a third picture available. They don't appear to be fakes at this moment (especially the third photo) but who knows? I'm not saying it's the new iMac, but the third photo is exceedingly convincing compared to the first two.
(Hopefully mentioning an AI thread won't get me banished for life! )
*edit* The third picture.

The third picture is obviously fake. Look at the reflections in the display. The angle doesn't match.

For what it's worth, Jobs made a big deal at the G4 iMac intro the difficulties of mounting an optical drive vertically. Argues against a radically new form factor.
