Bus of Greek kids crashes into truck full of glass en route to Paralympics

CBC SPORTS ONLINE - World records, personal-best times and other athletic achievements were secondary at the Athens Paralympics on Monday after a school bus taking 37 high school students to the event crashed, killing seven.
Four teachers also rode the bus that collided with a truck loaded with glass near the town of Aghios Constantinos, about 175 kilometres north of Athens.
In total, 30 passengers were injured, including three critically.
As a result, Games organizers have cancelled the planned entertainment portions for Tuesday's closing ceremony.
The schedule of events will include the entry of athletes, a speech by International Paralympic Committee president Phil Craven, the transfer of the Paralympic flag to the Beijing organizing committee and extinguishing of the Paralympic flame.
All Greek schools will be closed Wednesday as a sign of mourning.
Greek president Costis Stephanopoulos expressed "his deepest regret over this appalling accident."
Police are investigating witness reports that one of the truck's tires burst moments before the deadly crash, which occurred along a stretch of highway without a protective divider.
Antonis Galanos Lamia, police chief of the nearby city of Lamia, said the truck might have been speeding when it apparently jackknifed into oncoming traffic.
Farkadona high school principal Petros Hahopoulos said three buses loaded with students left the town at dawn to watch Day 10 of the Games.
"Schoolchildren have been big supporters of all Paralympic athletes and now it is time for us to offer our support to the friends and families of those involved in the accident," said International Paralympic Committee spokesperson Miriam Wilkens said.
It was the second crash involving high school students in Greece over the past 18 months.
In April 2003, 21 high school students were killed in central Greece when another bus crashed into a truck on the country's main north-south highway.

I know this thread is serious business and all, but come on, lay off Hanks. He can be tactful if he wants.
I actually only clicked on the thread so I could see the witty remark (and also got a laugh out of it).  This makes me a terrible bastard, I suppose.
