What is the easiest way to transfer an audio book (cassette) to itunes so I can listen on my ibook or burn a cd? And is this legal for my personal use if I purchased the cassette and it is not available on CD. Thanks

if it is a personal copy, yes, you are allowed to make a copy. (in most countrys )
you need to connect a cassette player's line-out to a line-in on your iBook, does it have any? if not, try the Griffin (?) iMic, which is connected via usb, works like charme; there are dozends of easy, some free software for recording audio, I do use final vinyl, which came along with Toast6; it automatically seperates the tracks (in your case, chapters?)
drag the final files (mostly .aiff) into iTunes, it will convert into mp3/aac - that's it.
needs some time, because analog audio is imported in realtime
I did it that way with some cassettes for my child - while traveling by train, he's listening to snowwhite & winnie poo
