Or so everyone would like you to think.

What is the difference between their capital punishment and ours? Dead is dead whether you were beheaded or fried or sedated.

People always say dead is dead.

Well, dead is not dead.

If I shoot you point blank in the head, right through your brain, you would probably be dead pretty quickly.

If I decide to tie you down, while severing your fingers, then toes, then pouring salt in the wounds, then using a rusty, unsharp saw to remove your head, you would also be dead eventually.

I'd prefer method #1, but that's just me.

And I wasn't referring to their capital punishment, I was just talking about what happens to American civilians who happens to be in one of those lousy countries.

By todays standards which are mostly scientific and economically based if certain cultures dropped off the planet it would cause chaos all over the planet because they are/were a keystone to what stability we do have in the world. There are many cultures all over the world but I dont think you can call them all great.
How can the superiority of a culture be defined by those type of contributions??

For instance, the Buddhists have no interest whatsoever in economic gains. Does that make them an inferior culture?

You see, you're actually proving Kitten right here - some cultures do not share the same VALUES of what is truth, what is a successful life. Example: Buddhists seek illumination. They are not a culture/religion based on profit, gains, in fact they're anti-desire.

Now please go back to tanning your neck in Texas.

Capturing and beheading innocent has absolutely nothing to do with that culture so can the crap.

Collective knowledge is the only thing that lives beyond the lifespan of a civilization. Diversity means crap.
I think in many ways our culture invites many pathological variables to our race (overclocked calculators and all).

The west has much higher (and increasing) rates of depression than much of the world we call undeveloped. We (the US) have the 2nd highest child poverty rate in the world. We are leaders in broken families and fatherless kids. I don't think this is some grand strategic plan to kill the weak and clean the gene pool. That doesn't even address pollution, nukes, and a whole host of genetically harmful contributions we've made to the gene pool as a direct consequence of our "superiority."

There's nothing "politically correct" about recognizing there are real benefits to the human race in other cultures. It is just a fact in terms of both survival and quality of life. Take away all the fancy toys and portable pollution devices for a moment -- do you really think the human race would end without MTV and Humvees?

I am amazed at the number of you who are obsessed with physical apearance.

The woman has the freedom to wear it or not. But to focus on the apearance aspect of her wearing it and to chide her for it is despicable.

I remember not asking about the russian thing once with this girl.

She insisted I not ask and so I did not. Being the considerate guy I was...and stuff. But I didn't take the hint. Because in truth she wanted me to be compelled to ask anyway. She just didn't know who she was dealing with, y'know? Pfffft! As if.

In the end I regret not asking. But of course I'd never let her know that.

Secondly, I specifically said the Islamic Empire made significant contributions to man. Read up to my first post if you missed it. But more specifically I said they havent done much lately and clearly you reiterated that with your links. In fact in the past HALF millennia they havent contributed a whole lot.
Also your two Nobel laureates studied primarily at Western Universities. Penn, Berkeley, Caltech, American University of Beirut (A school founded by Missionaries no less) and the Sorbonne. Their intellect was not exactly nurtured in Islamic institutions of higher learning, and I think we can all agree that nurturing a persons talents is key to them living up to their full potential. I didnt say there was a lack of intelligent people who are Muslim I said that Islamic society has ceased being that hotbed of achievement that it was 500 years ago.

I'll have more later since this is too easy. I have someplace to be now so you can complie another list of people in the mean time.

I almost missed this.

Most Hispanics I know are conservative either because of religious issues or family issues.

If a Hispanic is liberal, from my experience, it is because of union labor issues.

I see Hispanics turning towards the conservative party more and more. Family and religion mean a lot to their culture.

To each their own. It's what makes the world go round.

I can understand the concept behind wearing such a thing.

It removes temptation and lust from the eyes. If it's not there, there is no way you can be tempted by it.

I was simply quoting the verse that Zimphire was referring to.

I think, although the thread was started as a religious bashing, that there has been some good contributions by some thoughtful people.

You're just mad that other people don't think like you do. Thank God for that.
