25 - the reflection in the lake doubles the warmth of the sunset behind the fog, creating a mirror image you don't see every day. The silhouettes in the foreground give it a powerful perspective.
15 - captures the more intangible subject of sunlight through the trees. Looking at it, it almost feels as if I'm there
40 - what may have been a split second, frozen in time. The focus on this is impressive
13 - breathtaking, even at a low resolution
39 - nice framing in this one. Like with #15, it draws me into the picture

Awesome job all around! Here are my picks:

56 - monkey boy rules all

22 - just plain awkward and wonderful

10 - I can totally relate to this guy, and that blue is a really nice highlight

58 - really beautiful lighting and the overall atmostphere is quite nice

36 - would be perfect except for that bright cloud above the left poles is throwing the composition off

great job again, and fun contest!

25 - What more can be said? Stunning photo. Wish I could say I'd taken this shot.
28 - Beautiful use of light and shadow...has a spiritual feeling to it.
19 - This photo has it all. Contrast, color, composition, and motion...great eye.
01 - Has a classic feel to it.
15 - Simply a great photo.

And congratulations to all photographers who submitted their work. It's always inspiring to see what others are doing and are seeing through their lenses.

Come on.. surely some more people want to vote...

I know a lot of effort has been put into this by waxcrash and all those who took part in it. Any more people want to show their recognition and vote?

In the future, each contest should have a general theme, such as "nature", "city", "people", "christmas", etc. I'd also like for these contests to continue. Good job waxcrash!

Here goes:

1) 16 - beautiful.
2) 18 - i like the way this one was shot. it really emphasizes this stunning piece of architecture.
3) 26 - i love the formation of the rocks. so much is captured in just this one picture.
4) 24 - the impressive landscape really brings the sky alive in this one.
5) 17 - nice. gotta love pictures like this.

Overall, very nice pictures guys! They all were really nice. I'd like to give honorable mentions to some of my other favourites (in no particular order): 1, 15, 38, 42.

Just having something that you feel is worthy of submitting to something like this is testamony to the quality of the photo.

Yes, it was more a joke, because I know that my photo isen't in the same leauge as some of the others.
But you are absolutly right; it is very difficult to select just 5 pictures.

72 - no. 1
20 - reminds me of my vacations in Italy.
42 - I stood up there once and tried to take pictures. The building swayed so much, I couldn't do nightshots.
71 - I love the ocean.
67 - looks like frozen city night life.

Congrats guys, much to learn I still have.

I tallied the votes...
I can say which picture got the most 1st place votes.
One pic got 6 votes and two pics got 4 votes, but my score completely ignores votes for second, third, and beyond.

I would be happy to share the data with anyone who wants to do more statistical breakdowns. (I'm not very good at that..)

I did some more crunching..
If you give points to the votes:

1st = 5
2nd = 4
3rd = 3
4th = 2
5th = 1

And then total up the points per submission, the results are quite different.

Anyone with ideas how this should be scored?

I don't think it's been neglected, more that no one knows what to do now. Im sure with each subsequent contest, we'll get the voting method nailed down. If nothing else, its a great way to showcase your work to the rest of the community.

Or, we could not bother voting at all. I've really enjoyed taking part and looking at everyone's pics. When I first saw the standard I wondered why I'd bothered entering my flimsy holiday snap, but some people must've enjoyed it, i got a couple of votes!. I had such a hard time deciding my favourites it began to seem a little pointless trying to decide a "winner". Why not a monthly photo thread with one guideline - a photo you've taken yourself, that you like. More an exhibition rather than a contest?

Sorry for the neglect. I haven't forgotten about this. I bought a PS2 and GTA:SA last week and it's my new crack. I will add up all the votes, but I won't be able to do it until tomorrow because I'm going to the Pixies concert tonight. As for the next contest theme, please post your ideas

And as OB1 has said, I think the best part of this is just seeing everyones work. I really enjoyed looking at all the pics.

Have fun at the concert!

Remember, I've got a spreadsheet all set up that calculates the totals.

I'll wait till later tonight, and post the totals.

I couldn't agree more. My photo only got one vote that I noticed and that was good enough for me. Considering the competition, the fact that someone thought it was good enough to make it into the top five is pretty cool. Looking forward to the next one. I think someone mentioned architecture, and I think that's a good idea. Or people.

People is always an interesting subject to photograph, mainly because they can change their expression, body-language, etc... all in the time it takes for you to open the shutter.

I'm not going to talk about "the winner" because frankly, the quality of every submission was superb. I expected something similar to "mom's refrigerator", but as usual, the Macintosh community never ceases to amaze.

I will post "results", simply because we had a vote.. If we decide to not vote in the future, that's fine by me. Personally, I didn't vote because there was no way for me to pick one clear-cut favorite.

So anyway, without further adoo:

Results sorted by total Points
Code:

Not to nitpick, but I think it's pretty cool that someone voted for mine. In response to the comment mr. natural made about it, that was exactly my approach to the picture - I just couldn't have described it better myself.

Dang. My bad, I made a typo on Mr. Natural's vote, and put in 65 instead of 64.
I've updated the totals, you'll see yours listed...

fwiw - I change this vote. I ignored his top pick, cause he voted for himself.
