I don't know how many of you are familiar with SafariSpeed, but it is a piece of software that automates the speeding up of Safari by removing the page loading delay.

I have developed a new version of the software that adds support for purging and disabling favorite icons, another optimization that helps to speed up the browser.

I'm looking for people who are willing to test and critique this new version of the software before I release it.

You can download it: http://www.scifience.net/downloads/S...ed1.2Beta1.dmg

and unlock it with password: bakasan

Please let me know what you think and how it works for you. Thanks!

Does this work with 1.0.3 (ie the latest version that works under OSX 10.2.8)?

Why does Safari have this delay in the first place?

so that when a page first renders it is more complete, rather than rendering the first bit as fast as possible and then filling in more as it goes.

I haven't tested it; all my machines run Panther or a Tiger beta. I would assume that it does.

The page loading delay makes it seem faster; disabling the favorite icons makes it actually faster.

However, practically, the disabling of the page loading delay does make it faster, as the page will start being displayed sooner. So while it may take the same amount of time for the entire page to load, the first parts of it will be displayed sooner.

you need to get a progress bar for when you apply those things. also, you need to make it so you can't make the window any bigger. also, i still am getting favicons for some sites. also, you should make it so you know if you've applied the things.

You will still see the favicons, but they will not be saved for the next time you launch the browser.

I didn't really think a progress bar was needed; most of the things only take a few seconds to apply.

I'll look into having it show what has already been applied.

Thanks for the feedback!

What is wrong with a little info is that the command that is used to delete the icons (rm) provides no status information that could be used to generate a progress bar. The only thing I could do would be to have a progress bar that sits at empty and then jumps to full.

No, I didn't. I wasn't trying to sound nasty - I was just starting with the simple explaination because I was too lazy to write the detailed one at 11PM.

You don't need to rm all files at once. Call it in a loop 27 times (a-z, *) deleting each loop only the files that match some alphanumerical criterium. And if you first count all files that match the criteria, you can still make a fairly accurate progress bar.
These people are Americans. Don't expect anything meaningful or... uh... normalcy...
