Hi,

I just got this 120 GB hard disk packed with 8 MB buffer-cache <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> ...

I love it (I know I will)! Haven't set it up yet ... I am here for some advise ...

1. Which formatting utility should I use? Norton? Micromat? FWB? Or even Apple's Drive Setup?

2. How am I going to partition it? Here is my plan ...

50 GB : OS X
50 GB : Other stuffs ... (Apps, Games, Large files, anything ...)

That left me 20 GB (11.79 GB to be nitpicky <img border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" title="" src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" /> ) ... I would want to have a few partition for the 20 GB for different OSes ... One for OS 9, another for <a href="http://www.macfora.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=45270#post45270" target="_blank">Virtual PC</a> and maybe LINUX?

3. Finally, should I installed it on top of my old drive (IBM 40 GB Deskstar 60 GXP)? It is very near the fan ... I worry if something could happen ... Advise?

By the way, what should I put in my old drive after the migration?

This is the info from Apple System Profiler:

Thanks in Advance! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Best regards from,
pmg4lktan

50 GB just dedicated to X is pretty big, almost too big...are you going to be storing a lot of apps and docs on your X partition, like saving lots of stuff to your home dir?

Is that OK? I may decrease it ...

Thanks anyway! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

50GB is huge for just OS X and apps. On my QS 933, I have OS X (10.1.4) and OS 9.2 plus apps for both (iMovie, iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, Photoshop, Premiere, Netscape, Office, Cleaner, etc., etc.) and it takes up maybe 4 or 5GB. The machine is home, so I can't check, but I have about 7 hours of digital video on the same drive (80GB) so I know the OS/apps don't take that much.
