Ok, the situation:

29 November: I place an order for a new Dual 2.0DP PowerMac G5 from PowerMac (a 1st Gen model for $2399)

30 November: I mail a personal check

7 December: I notice the funds have left my account

8 Decmeber: Send an email, reply says they received my check on the 6th, and will ship sometime next week (being the week of 13-17 December)

15 December: Send an email saying "Please let me know when my order ships", receive a reply saying "No problem, will let you know"

20 December: Have received no shipment notification. Have received no PowerMac G5.

Anyone else deal with Powermax before? Should I be concerned?

You should probably only be worried that you won't get it before Christmas. They've been around for a while, so I don't think you'll get scammed.

If you don't hear by the middle of this week, call them and ask for a tracking number. Don't email - call. Then you have an opportunity to ask what is the holdup, how long will that be, etc.? Also, if you call, they have to deal with you right away.

I traded in an unused Powerbook G4 and Powermac G3 for a 20" Apple Cinema Display. They charged my credit card immediately and I received my display promptly. However, it took them the a full 8 weeks to evaluate my trade ins and give me credit. I sent them a "reminder" and the credit appeard on my card a couple days later. I was satisfied with the transaction but it did take longer than I had wished. Good luck!

picked up an iMac from them a few year ago, no problems. do they have a phone number you can call? i'd call them up and ask them what the hell is up.

Option 5: PowerMax is reliable, as I had a fine experience ordering from them a couple years ago and I have no reason to believe they're going to take your money and run. However, anyone selling a PowerMac 7200 for $59 is a complete retard. Link.

It is the holiday season so deliveries are likely held up. Call them if needed, but patience will likely win out on this one.

I have purchased two macs from Powermax, and traded in one.....a first rate company as far as I am concerned. Possibly the ONLY company where you get to speak to a real human being without negotiating a maze of automated phone hell (or they used to be a few years ago). Give em time and remember that christmas is coming up, hell for them as well. I feel your pain

You're shipping it internationally, I presume?

update: well, I called PowerMax and talked to my sales rep.

said something to the effect of "Yea, I'm going to take that to the post office today, sorry for the delay." I'm at an APO address in Germany, I'm pretty sure the US Postal Service doesn't do P/Us like any normal shipping service (FedEx, UPS), so they probably do have to take it into a Post Office. Which is one reason why a lot of companies don't ship to an APO (like the friggin Apple Store).

Well, I just hope the thing gets here. Expensive electronics and computers have a way of getting "lost" in the military postal system. And if you thought UPS was hard on your packages......

P.S. in case you didn't know, the main reason to ship stuff to an APO when you have that option is that when the item is shipped via a traditional carrier (FedEx), it will get taxed when it hits German customs.

Electronic purchases + APO/FPO address = fraud flag. Some mail-order systems hold up shipments to these addesses and add to report which is then investigated by a (insert Zim voice) human to assess legitimacy.

That's the only reason I can think of for the delay.

If it becomes a real problem, PM me. I may have some pull.
