I have just got a Apple 17" Studio Display (LCD) and I have some Questions.
I can't make out the 'stripes' in OSX's menubar, is this normal for these displays? Or is it a sign that it is defective, and should I send it back ? There seams to be no 'dead pixels' or any other sort of 'dis-colouration' on the display.
Is there any way to ajust the 'contrast' on an LCD Display?
I often leave my Mac on for extended periods (sometimes overnight) to do verious tasks. With my old CRT I used to just switch it off, can I do a similar thing with the LCD, not using the brightness control? (Hummm OS level brightness control with the mouse, if you move the slider all the way to the darkest, how can you see to move it back?) Using 'Sleap' is not an option, as I want the computer to do 'stuff'.
I have this display connected to a pre-ADC Powermac G4, using Apple's DIVI to ADC adapter, is the monitor power button suposed to do somthing in this config (other than 'get brighter' when I put my finger on it)?

I always thought the monitors were supposed to turn on/off when you hit the power button in that config.
I'm not sure why but on all the other apple LCDs this problem doesn't happen, I suppose it only does on the 17", it all looks good on my 22"
But it is bad to leave your LCD on, like all other lightbulbs, backlight bulbs burn out with time.
The most annoying thing on my monitor is after 6 months the edges are already discolored and don't look right, for a $2500 monitor it is a bit of a dissapointment.
Worse yet, this monitor was a replacement, the original was well, anyhoot, this one is actually about 3 months old.
So 3 months of use and the backlight isn't working right or something, the corners really scare me. Looks like apple will be at it before I can enjoy it

I've had mine for almost a year with no complaints. You can put it to sleep via the Energy Saver sytem preference.
Chicks dig it too!

I too have just bought an Apple 17 inch Studio...
I too find the pinstripes very hard to see...at first I thought the same as you, but it is not defective.
You can 'sleep' just the monitor with the 'energy saver' control panel...the power button will put the whole system to sleep...
Hope this helps,
Marc
P.S. I have absolutely no complaints with the display...it looks fantastic. I can also *confirm* (in true Apple Insider Style!!) that chix do indeed dig it
P.P.S. TSea, welome to the forum!

Man, if you think chicks dig the studio you should see them with a cinema display *grin*
hehe, so still, my monitor has like a 4" diaginal zone at the bottom left which has like horrible contrast or something and doesn';t seem to get any better, plus my menu bar is starting to burn in.
2 month old LCD too.. wtf?!!?!
*shrug* Muwahahahha!! :-D
