Does anyone know if it will charge when plugged into the USB port if the Mac is asleep?

Zero mention of how much wear and tear those little caps at the end will endure. Considering it will hold the iPod to that lanyard I say its a pretty important point to review.

Also how easy it is to get the cap off. I mean if you are hanging it from a string attached the cap it could fall right off.

That was my concern too. Watching the keynote stream, though, when Jobs plugged his into the lanyard he was wearing, there was a healthy, audible "snap" which is encouraging.

It's sturdy enough. I've tinkered with 'em first hand. I'll be back at macworld and the applestore later today, so i'll try to get a bunch of pictures. inside the cap, there are pins, and on the player portion, there are sockets for the pins. The pins snap into the sockets (dents on the player) and it results in a satisfying click. While it's still possible to lose to seperate the two (player and cap) it isnt as easy as a usb cap that just slides on. that being said, i dont like the idea of a lanyard cap, but something this light wouldnt put too much pressure on the cap to seperate the two. More likely, the player will get caught on something and pull off. This could have been resolved with one of those (cell phone strap loops).

If you're wearing the shuffle around your neck, can't someone just grab it tighly and rip it off from its cap and run away?

If you're wearing a full size iPod on a belt clip, couldn't someone just grab it tightly and rip it off from your belt and run away.

Besides the thing is only $100 - is there going to be a hot market for selling stolen iPod shuffles with no headphones, cap, box, etc.

I seems so. A new term for this sort of an activity should therefore immediately be coined.

Suggestions?

I predict the shuffle will be the #1 flash-based MP3 player within 3 months.
