This friday I make the plunge from Windows to OSX.

I've backed up most of my information for the switch, however, I was wondering if anyone knows how to move my thunderbird profile to mail.app?

or should i use thunderbird for mac? is this easier to move from windows tb -> mac tb? and if so, how do i do that?

any help or links would be much appreciated .

Welcome to Macintosh.

I'm sure others can be of more help on this topic, but perhaps you can provide more information about what exactly in contained in your Thunderbird "profile" that you want to switch over?

If it's just server settings, signatures and the like, I'd think you were better off inputting them anew in Mail.app. If it's other things, let us know and we'll see what we can suggest.

(Sorry - I know that's not the most helpful, but others certainly know more than I do)

Why not use Thunderbird for OS X?

I would just locate the Thunderbird profile on your PC and just transfer that to the Mac if possible. Might make it easier on you

simple as that? then i guess i'll be doing that

but is mail.app better than thunderbird on the mac? or is it, as usual, up to the user to decide?

I'd give Thunderbird a shot before going to the trouble of switching to Mail.app. The beautiful thing about Thunderbird is that its configuration and mail files are identical across platforms. Just bring your Thunderbird profile folder over to your Mac and put it in ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles.

This *may* help:

http://apple.weblogsinc.com/entry/5203323776719644/

It describes doing the opposite of what you want to do (it talks about going from Mail.app to Thunderbird). But you may be able to use it to figure something out, should you decide to go with Mail.app.
