NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 with 64MB of DDR SDRAM
(12"er)

vs.

ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with 64MB of DDR SDRAM
(15"er 1.5ghz)
-------------------------?
I am getting a 12" powerbook with 100gb Hard Drive, 768mv ram and superdrive for $1657 with student store price. but then theres CA tax which is 8%+. I hear the 15" powerbooks have better video card, but by how much? I cant seriously think of spending $450 more for a powerbook than $1700. How large of a difference is it? thanks (im sure that the rev.c 12"er used the Go5200 also. not sure about the rev.c 15" tho)

I had the Go5200 with 32 MB VRAM in my 12" PowerBook, and now have a Mobility 9700 with 128 MB VRAM in my 15" PowerBook. I don't how much it has to do with the amount of VRAM or the rest of the main board, but when it comes to 3D games it's like night and day. Before game play tended to stutter as soon as you got into some action, now everything stays nice and smooth even with higher details.

Hello,
I just ordered a new powerbook 15", but I do not plan to play
computer games with it. I ordered it with the regular
64mb video card. What do you recommend or what did you order with
your powerbook? What would I need a 128 MB card for apart from
playing games?
regards,
Ben

If you plan on driving a DDL DVI screen like the 30" ACD, you'd need it.
