I just wanted to get an idea of what kind of systems you guys are using for your web development.
Currently Im a web developer student at a local technical college. I've got a 12-inch 1.33 Ghz Powerbook G4 with 19-inch NEC MultiSync LDC1970GX display.
This setup should be ok for web development? Right? Or at some point well I need to upgrade to a G5 for more serious web development work?

Depends on what language/tools you use.
I limp by on an ibook 800. But writing java code in eclipse is painful, and netbeans is barely acceptable.
In contrast, PHP, perl etc would be fine on this machine.
And java/cocoa apps compile quickly and run fine on this machine, too.
I don't think you _need_ to upgrade, but you'll probably always _want_ to.

I use a dual 533 and get by just fine. I develop with PHP/MySQL mostly. I also use this machine as my testing server. Works great. God bless you OS X.

17" 1.5ghz Powerbook w/attached 15" CRT.
Mostly PHP/MySQL with some javascript and Flash thrown in when necessary. Currently using PHP Version 4.3.10 from www.entropy.ch so it matches the web server at work. I can create all sites locally and then upload to the actual web server (Linux) and they work without a hitch. The developers that work on Windows here at the office have to make changes, upload, refresh just to check minor changes. Poor saps.
As far as power is concerned, you Powerbook should be plenty for most web development.

PowerBook G4/667 512MB RAM. HTML/CSS mostly, dabbing into PHP. Great machine still, even after 3 years of use.
