I have a G4 gigabit ethernet and I believe the power supply says its 220 watts .. ATI says the following about the power supply requirments..

(RADEON 9800 PRO MAC EDITION requires connection to your computers internal power supply for operation. ATI recommends a 300-Watt power supply or greater to ensure normal system operation where a number of other internal devices are installed.)

Can I upgrade the power supply or is it not needed to run this card?

Thanks
~Clay~

It's not just a toy, it's a highly technical well engineered machine..

From ATI's site:

"RADEON 9800 PRO MAC EDITION requires connection to your computers internal power supply for operation. ATI recommends a 300-Watt power supply or greater to ensure normal system operation where a number of other internal devices are installed."

More specifically, devices that draw power off the 12V rail. Those are your hard disks, optical drives, graphic card and processor.

I assume there's a cable directly to the card from the power supply?

Anway, to check your power supply needs you need to know your power needs at the different voltage levels. The +12V is a popular line on modern systems and you need a lot of beef there to support everything you're plugging into it. The overall wattage of the power supply is meaningless if you overwhelm the 3.3, 5 or 12V rail.
