I currently have a 15'' powerbook that i love and a crappy old dell desktop that i am replacing.
I am stuck between the 1.8 ghz imac or the 1.8ghz powermac.
The only thing that i am worried about is that seeing as how it looks as if all the powermacs will soon be duel proccessors i dont want to be left behind on anything by buying an out of date system.
I dont do heavy duty stuff just office, internet, light gaming light photoshop etc.

If i do go towards the powermac i was thinking about getting the standard 256 and 80 hard drive and buying cheaper memory through crucial / new egg and using my 180 gb hard drive i have in my dell. Wise move or no?
Ive become fairly proficient w/ my powerbook but am total n00b sauce with apple desktops
any and all help is appreciated.

I'm kind of in the same position as you and I'm ordering the 1.8 Powermac right now actually. If you're looking between the iMac and PM, I'm guessing you've already got another display. Pricing is identical between the two and you have a much better upgrade path with the PM regardless of the fact that all PM's will be dual cpu or dual core soon. You'll be buying an "out of date" system regardless of what machine you decide on.

Also, Just a heads up though, if your Dell actually is old as you put it, the HD likely won't swap over into the powermac due to it not being SATA.
