So I just installed Tiger everything seems a bit slower. 1ghz TiBook 1gig ram 40 gig HD 7gigs free. anyway after setting up a few must have programs I go to check out this spotlight thing and it says it needs to index first. I Imagined it would take some time but 10 HOURS IS REDICULOUS! I'm hoping that it is just an estimated time and that cuz its running things seem to be going slow. Is it like that for everybody?

On my powerbook (667 VGA) it estimated 11 hours, took about 8 (I left it to index overnight). Everything ran slower while indexing, but afterwards performance is great. Let it do it's thing, it's all for the better.

How big is the index? How much HD space does it take up?

My 160Gb drive took considerably longer than an hour to index. Maybe more like, uh, 12 or so? I've got about 24Gb free...

It DID seem like it would be done indexing after shorter stretches of time after installing, but then I'd get hideously anemic result sets for any of my searches. I finally left my system on all night (I disabled sleeping) and the next day Spotlight worked like a charm.

My 80GB drive took about 45 minutes on a 400MHz Sawtooth upgraded to 1GHz.
