Story in short:
Tiger clean install, installed Garageband,iMovie and iPhoto from my original 2 month old Mac mini disc using Pacifist.
Garageband and iMovie working fine,iPhoto starts up,but keep hanging forever in the screen that says "loading photo's".
Rtied everything,repaired permissions,trashed .plist,restart,trashed everything iPhoto and reinstalled,nothing works.
No plug-in's,it happens with a fresh library, with my old library and with the camera attached.
It just keeps spinning and telling me it's loading photo's.
I read the Apple discussion boards and see more people with the problem, some find a solution that works for them, some don't.
Anyone has anything that worked for them to share,or am I doomed to go back to iPhoto 04 and wait for a update to fix the problem with 05?

I don't know what Pacifist is, but why did you use it instead of just installing the software normally?

Instead of doing a full install, Pacifist allows you to install particular apps from the install disks.

I used it to get some apps from the install disk.
I did a complete re-install yesterday btw, because I thought maybe the installation with pacifist had anything to do with the problem.
No such luck.

How much of a lag are you talking about - I have about 630 pics and it takes about 7 seconds to pull up everything from startup. I wish there was a way to close the window without exiting iphoto....

I'm sadly enough not talking about lag.
I would be happy with lag at this point.
iPhoto just hangs forever on loading,I can leave it on all night,no result.
Have to force/quit to get out.

Have you considered that one or more of your picture files could be corrupt? If the app can't load it, it may keep trying and trying and trying.....and freeze the whole computer.
Unfortunately, I don't have a suggestion for something that could examine those pictures for corruption at hand right now. You could try opening them with a browser-Firefox will tell you if a picture you try to load is corrupt.

Hold down the option key when you open iphoto. It will give you the option of rebuilding your thumbnails and or iphoto library.

Thanks for the idea's,but:
It happens with both a old library OR a new, clean library,so no corrupt files.
Holding down option/command didn't work either.
I'm affraid i am depending on a update for Tiger now,it's a pretty common problem for lots of people.

Try manually checking and setting the permissions on your iPhoto Library folder. They do not get reset upon a repair permissions with Disk Utility. Here's how:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure you have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.

Back to iPhoto 04 for the moment, and wait for the first Tiger update.
