Im in the market for one of the new iMac's and i was trying to figure out how to get the best deal. Since buying upgrades from Apple is so expensive i was wandering if the hard drive and /or ram on the iMac is easily upgradable?
I have been a P.C user for a while and built my current pc from scratch so i kinda know what im doing.
However i dont want to void my warranty or anything just to save a few bucks.
Any advice from someone whos done thing before?

The iMac G5's hard drive, optical drive, and RAM can all be easily replaced by the end user without voiding the warranty.

Indeed, the components are standard and the same as in the PC world: 3.5" S-ATA hard drives, ATA optical drives, PC3200 DDR-RAM...
As you can see on these Apple DIY (Do-It-Yourself) PDFs, opening the iMac G5 is very easy (even the 4 screws remain attached themselves to the lid pane once unscrewed!)
iMac G5 17" model:
Hard Drive Replacement Instructions
Optical Drive Replacement Instructions
Memory Replacement Instructions

All internal component replacements instructions for iMac G5 (17" and 20") are avaiable in various languages on this Apple web page.
